Additional fuel carrying capacity on pickup

I have motorhomed for years with 100 gal diesel tank. Now have 5er with Ford F-350 diesel with 20 gal tank. Miss the old duel tanks on fords of yesteryear. What have you all done to get more than 200 miles between stops? 5 gal cans in bed? Messy. Looking at 50-75 gal transfer tank in pick up bed but can’t find one short enough that tonneau cover will cover. Any ideas?

Lol. Who cares if the OP has 20 gallons or 26 gallons capacity? Either way, that isn’t nearly enough.

Check the Titan replacement tank of the RDS auxiliary tank. I have an RDS 60 gallon. I don’t have a tonneau cover but if I did, it would still work.

The auxiliary tank is one of my favorite things of my truck. Works great.

This is just a curiosity question... do you have a SRW shortbed? My 2012 F350 has a 37 gallon tank.

My 2020 F350 SRW has a 48 gal tank.

Before adding any additional fuel capacity, weigh the truck and trailer to see how much room you have for the fuel weight.

I added a 60 gal. aux. diesel fuel tank and this did affect my milage. My 3500 Dodge truck pulls a 14K 5th wheel and it pulls with no problems after instaling the 60 gal. tank.

Did you check the gross weight of the truck and the rear axle weight after adding the 60 gallon fuel tank full of fuel and carrying the pin weight of the trailer.

One gallon of diesel fuel weighs about 7 lb. So 60 gallons will weigh about 420 lbs plus the tank. Add you loaded pin weight, cargo, etc, are you still under the rear axle GAWR?

Amen to that.

In my youth, I ran out and got the largest aux tank I could find and dropped it in the bed of a Chevy 2500 Duramax crew cab long bed. No thoughts as to what a 200 gallon tank of diesel would mean to me other than the fact that I could drive to the moon and back.

I was eager to fill it up so I did on the way home and saw what that did to the suspension and handing. Then I penciled it out and saw that 200 gallons of diesel was 1,420 pounds, not counting the weight of the tank, and that this was probably "a bit much"..

RDS makes a in bed auxiliary fuel tank. I got a 50 gallon one with my autoslider hitch about 800 miles on an average day pulling a fiver.

They add 55 gallons and the tank fits where the OLD tank was under the truck.

I have 32 gallons and wish I had more. My last DRW had 35 and I liked that amount. I carry a 5 in my toolbox and have used it once in the last six years. But no way would I sacrifice my big bed height tool box with a transfer tank.

If I did anything different It would be adding the 55 gallon TITAN.

Valhalla. I think you are correct on your v10 with 26gal. Diesel has a Def tank that the v 10 does not

Just because the gauge says empty does NOT mean it's empty. What does your owners manual say?

Unsure what truck you have but take a look at Titan fuel tanks. They may offer a midship replacement tank. Based on some info in your post and some assumptions ford, 350, short bed, diesel 2017-2022 they offer a 55 gallon tank that takes the place of your existing fuel tank. No bed space lost or additional plumbing. I have had them in my last couple trucks and worth every penny as far as I am concerned. The new truck I have on order comes with a 50 gallon tank so wont put one it.

I have used Titan but transfer flow, S&B, or Aero tanks may make them as well

I don't understand the different capacities. I have had 3 F-350 diesels and all of them held 40gal. Even a C class I had years ago had a 40gal tank. But I put an extra tank in the bed of all of them, not the C. Those real old ones did have 2 tanks but still around 40 gal.
