Replacement for the square, louvered, cover for your battery box is available on E-bay (a seller named "RVjunky.com") for $6.85 with free shipping.
This is not an add for the Junky, but I have had a hard time finding anybody who stocked this item for about three months since mine fell apart.

My actual battery box is buried in the basement behind the driver's side landing gear. A corrugated black plastic hose runs from a filling in the top of the box to an outlet on the outside of the trailer, on the front apron, just below the landing gear switches.
In addition to being explosive, hydrogen, the outgass product of charging a wet cell battery, is lighter than air. Any hydrogen generated during charging rises, goes into the hose, and up and out through the vent.
The vent cover is a square plastic fitting that covers the outlet and has a louvered opening to prevent the entry of rain or splash.
I'm not sure what kind of trailer you are running since you don't have a signature, but most fifth wheels I've seen have internal battery locations that, under DOT and RVIA standards, must be vented to outside atmosphere.
