Any recommendations for RV park at the lake. Have a 39' 5th wheel and looking for a pull thru spot. Will be there in mid April. Also, coming from Tucson,Az. whats a good spot to stop between here and the lake for the night? First Time traveling there, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thats a long drive from Tucson and where you stop depends on your route .Are going to try to do it in 2 days or 3 ?
The oil field has the motels full in west Tx and the private rv parks also.Make a rezervation where your going to make the stops.Lots of state parks between El Paso and lake Bucannon.

Hacienda Resort in Las Cruces/El Paso is our stopover. They have looong pullthrus. We have dry camped in Van Horn. Balmorhea State Park is a nice place to stop. The big draw is a spring fed swimming pool. Pullthrus are actually long pollouts. I'm sure Ft. Stockton has some camping, but we usually go to Davis Mountains State Park instead. It's about a hour off I10, but a nice oasis in the desert, about 6000' MSL. Fills up fast so call ahead. We haven't needed camping between Las Cruces and NE TX, but there are very few private grounds.

West shore of Lake Buchanan:
Black Rock Park is 2 mi. off Hwy 29 and was rebuilt about 7 years ago. Nice place operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority (a quasi state agency). I don't think they have pullthrus, but it's on the water.

East shore:
Canyon of the Eagles is camping, lodge, restaurant within another LCRA park. Unique setting with access to the lake.
Big Chief Resort is pretty new and had lots of potential, but time and neglect has taken it's toll.
Inks Lake State Park would be tight for a 39'+ tow, but there is a golf.
If you come into Llano from the West on Hwy 29, stop at Coopers BBQ. The food is good, but even if you don't eat, the grills are amazing to see.

For Lake Buchanan, check out Canyon of the Eagles. While much of what they advertise is a resort-style setting, they have a nice loop with a number of slots for RVs. The price is a bit steep, but a very nice setting.

This was the first place my wife and I stayed after purchasing the trailer in August of 2012. We've been wanting to go back, just too many choices in parks in Central Texas!

Another option is the next lake to the south on the Highland Lakes Chain, Inks Lake. There is a state park, probably one of our favorites, aptly named ... Inks Lake State Park.

Good luck with your search, keep us posted on where you end up staying.
