Generator assistance

I have a 2014 Sabre 5th wheel with 2 roof airs. This year we have decided to dry camp a lot. Is there a 240 volt generator that's fairly quiet (wont make my camping neighbors mad)that you could recommend? I want an stand alone generator. Or is there a way to daisy chain 2 smaller generators together? Thanks in advance.

JRMunn... not sure what AC you have, but sounds like you are leaving the cold air dump vent open. Many can be closed, so all ac air goes to the ceiling ducts only.

My observation has been that it takes more power to start an AC unit than it does to run it. If you can start the AC units separately, 4500 watts might be able to start a second unit after the first one has been running. Then you could at least cool your trailer down before they start cycling together. I only have one AC. It has ducts, but most of the cool air is blown directly beneath it into the living space, while the "bedroom" stays warm. I have found that a turbo fan pointed up and out from the back of the sleeping area can blow the hottest air near the ceiling out while pulling in cooler air that lays a little lower. And a little air movement can make warmer temperatures more comfortable. This might help in the short term. Good luck with your generator search.

Racer18,

Almost no RV's require 240 volts. A 50 amp service is two legs of 120 volts. An adapter to a 120 volt outlet will power both legs.

How many watts is the peak demand?

My choice would be a Champion 3400 watt inverter generator with remote electric start.

X-2.

However - to view LOTS (and lots) of generator info (brands, capacities, etc., etc.) .....it's all on the TECH ISSUES forum (here).

Also, good spot for a search on whatever brand you are considering.

If you started the AC's one at a time with easy start, could you get by with one generator?

2 3's would be awesome. Those are the quietest gens I've never heard. My 3 2's are the equivalent, but probably louder.

I guess I'm torn between 2 3000's in parallel or just a Honda7000. Price would be about the same. 50 AMP service at the campground is fantastic! but when your dry camping at a Race Track I need both airs. You all make very good points but I think I'm more confused on what actually to buy. Thanks again.

I wonder if anyone has tried 3500 watts with two microair equipped air conditioners with a hybrid inverter charger?
