Hijacker vs Superglide

Hello all,

Just purchased a 5th wheel (and a 6.5' GMC 2500). I have a couple of questions about the Hijacker and Superglide.

1 - Has anyone had any problems with either?
2 - Any major differences between the two?
3 - Thinking of going with an undermount. Are they hard to install yourself?
4 - Would you consider buying the head used?
5 - Where have you got the best deal for purchasing?

Thanks for your help!

when we had a TT and was thinking about a 5er I saw a superglide at a campground, at first sight I wanted this automatic hitch, found a 5er and started looking on craigslist for a hitch, I knew they would be expensive and I was not going with a new hitch. after 2 weeks found a 3300 for 500 dollars and it had the brackets for my truck. all I needed is the bolts. I also installed it myself in 3 hrs. after 2 summers I love it, sure it takes some maint but IMO it is the best but I know nothing else

Built in Victoria then A! To bad they sold out. Mine is old enough that is has the original machined block for the tilt function. They cheapened that later.

On edit: I called Demco today and they had the rubber stops for my old Hijacker that I bought in 1997. Few buck each and they are sending them USPS to keep cost down! Almost as good of service I got for the Victoria group before they sold. They send me a complete label kit to apply after I repainted the hitch, for free!!!!

We had the original style sg 16k for the last 4.5 years until upgrading to the new style sg 18k. The difference in the newer hitches is amazing. All of the steel is thicker and better designed. The reason I mention this is that recently the 16k had become very unreliable with multiple weld failures and cracking within the main body. Called pullam on it and they simply offered to sell replacement parts. The warranty is only a few years OR 30k miles whichever comes first.

They are great hitches but all the moving parts does come with a price. The newer style are significantly more robust than earlier generations.

Thanks for all the responses. Mostly Superglide users out there. Did some shopping and as everyone says, Tweety's is the best.

18k Superglide Total = 1700.00
18K Hijacker Total = 1400.00

Not trying to be Mr. Cheapo - but is the Superglide worth the extra 300.00?

Craig

Yes. No comparison. And SG has awesome customer service on top of a great product.

1. 16K SG since 2005 - no problems, happy - no complaints.

2. Only had the SG - so can't make a valid comparison.

3. Installed my own "undermount" - first one I ever did, helper had installed one (different brand) once. Went very smoothly, good directions by SG.
Took about 3-4 hours - could probably do one in two hours now.
Any questions during install - SG tech line very helpful, although I only had one (easy) Q.

4. Would consider buying the entire hitch used - after careful inspection.

5. Compare various RV supply (via internet) for best prices.
Be sure to check shipping charges - My SG and all the parts was about
350 lbs - so it doesn't ship via FedEx or UPS!.. :W

X4 on the Superglide. We have had ours for a year now and it has performed flawlessly. Never a doubt about whether or not the jaw has engaged.

Best price we found was at Tweety's. Here is the unit we bought.

You never know when you may have to maneuver in a tight area or in inclement weather. Having the auto-slide capability is a definite plus.
