For a short bed truck a Pullrite Superglide is tough to beat. Never worry about tight turns or having to manually slide a hitch. Also love the below the bed rails and quick disconnect pins. Allows hitch to be removed easily for full bed cargo use.

Many good brands out there so take some time and gather info. I have a Reese Classic 20k hitch bought in 1996. It has been in 3 trucks and pulled 2 trailers. No issues in all that time and it is still tight. Just regular cleaning and lube.
As someone mentioned, 4 way swivel is a plus on whatever you get.

B&W should be looked at for a hitch. You probably will NOT need a slider, I have never needed a slider and my fith wheel trailer has square corners. Ford has the longest short bed among the big three and those two or three inches do make quite a difference.

I agree on the air ride if you are pulling tandem. Also look for something that has under the bed rails to leave the bed clear.

bite the bullet one time and buy you a air hitch. Once you get over writing the check . You will be glad you did on your very first trip.I bought my first 5th wheel in august 2006. A friend of mine told me to buy the 25k air safe hitch. He said I am not telling you it is worth the money. But I like the ride. He pulls his center console boat behind his 5th wheel . He said he forgot his soap bottle and left it on the kitchen counter. When he got back home it was still sitting on the counter. And it is at least a 2hour drive from the lake. That was all I needed. I have not regretted buying the hitch. You don't even know the 5th wheel is behind you. The truck and trailer are not in a bind with each other. The trailer just floats back their. Their are also other good air hitches on the market. Just make sure they have the Binkley Holland Head on them.

Before you buy anything LOOK at the B&W!

It is solid no rattle hitch. The jaws are 1" thick and the locking system is so basic that when the handle is closed and the kingpin and 5th wheel plates are touching it is latched no question.

It is 100% Made in USA. Talk to people that have been RVing for years and have used other brand hitches and see what they say.

In all my years of traveling I have never seen a damaged bed from the 5er falling that had a B&W. Lots of Reese and others especially the ones that have a handle that sticks up.

Heard of one B&W but they admitted locking the handle open and then pulling away. Never lock the handle open!

Tweetys.com is a good place to buy BUW.

I'm not into the brand thing with hitches that size but for a 15k or 16k hitch be sure and get a 4 way pivoting head regardless of brand (fore and aft and side to side). Makes hooking up and unhooking much easier.

Most likely that short bed Ford will need a sliding hitch unless the trailer has the rounded/notched front corner profile.
