Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2015 Eagle HT FW 28.5RSTS "PR" trailers manufactured June 2, 2014, to October 28, 2014. Incorrect tire size information may be found on the tire label. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims for Passenger Cars." CONSEQUENCE:

Replacing a tire based on an incorrect tire size could overload the trailer causing poor handling and increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY:

Jayco will mail new labels to registered owners with placement instructions. Owners can also request dealers to install the new label with the correct tire size ST225/75R15D, free of charge. The recall began on December 8, 2014. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901229. NOTES:

Usually this kind of "infraction" is quickly resolved as soon as the manufacturer learns of the problem. NHTSA just gets notified, if they didn't discover the issue, and that covers all the legal requirements.

I had this happen with a small utility trailer I bought from harbor Freight. This mistake can easily happen when companies do not have a real QA department that keeps an eye out for this kind of thing.

Most likely the floor workers knew, but were "smart" enough not to say anything lest they be fired. 😕

Labels

When we were shopping for a fiver, we looked at Cougar 276RL and 278RK models. Ended up buying the 278RK.

Picked it up and the model decal says 276RK. They never made a model with that name. Somebody just screwed up ordering the decal art. I asked for a correct decal but they just blew me off.

When I purchased my FW new, I noticed the tire sticker on the trailer did not match the brochure info, or the tires installed. The sticker said 235/80 16D, and the tires installed were 225/75 15D.

I called the factory with the vin, and they said it was ordered with, and left with 225/75 15. They also offered to send a new label.

I had looked at two other FWs identical to mine, both of which had the same 225/75 15D. One had the correct sticker for the tires, and the other like mine was wrong.

Tires do fit the trailer specs as installed.
