Load Range G Tires

I currently have Goodyear G614 tires on our fifth wheel (see signature). This is what came on the trailer when we bought it new in 2013. I am looking at new tires and am trying to understand why the G614 tires (235/85R16) have a diameter of 30.7 inches whereas all other 235/85R16 tires have a diameter of 31.7 inches.

If I switch tire brands I don't know if a 1 inch larger tire will fit in my wheel wells.

Does anyone know why the Goodyear G614 tires have a smaller diameter than every other tire brand? Even the Goodyear Endurance 235/85R16 has a diameter of 31.7 inches. (I have no intention of dropping to an E range tire - the Endurance is just an example).

Thanks for any input.

I have LOOKED on these forums for NON road hazard GY "G" failures, didn't see any.

Still waiting........

Come on guys you are the ones saying the GY's are so horrible so show me!

You guys that say the price is too much at least you are honest, but don't try to justify this because the GY is so bad because the evidence post 07 simply does not show it being a bad tire!

OH yea I was a "working guy" when I purchased GY "G" tires twice and GY "H" tires once.

I am NOT saying you are wrong, BUT like my friend tells me "prove it".

Show GY "G" and "H" tire sales numbers and Sailun's. Then show NON road hazard claims. Unless you do that it's all OPINION.

Who had a road hazard on a ENDURANCE and GY replaced the tire??? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ron, You say prove it . I posted here on a Sailun failure last year . Search that thread on here ,and see the G614 BLOWOUT. This is just one that I mentioned of a few that I have read about ,and seen on the Montana forum. When they read my thread they posted on here about their G614 blowout .

I have invited you on a couple of occasions , to go take a look on the Montana forum, also included on there was a G114. Yes the Goodyears do continue to have blowouts.

X2. My real world experience with the Sailuns too has been 100% positive and I will do it again in the future if I am in need of G rated tires. I really tried to buy US made tires, folks, but close to double the price was just a bit too much for this working guy!

Yes the price is a big factor, but I also wanted the best tire . It was not all about the price ,but the history of failures steered me away from Goodyear. Some insist on prove, yet refuse to listen when there has been proof plus the pictures thats been posted on here.

Oh absolutely, it's all hearsay and anecdotal evidence. But there's a lot of it. ๐Ÿ™‚ That's one of the reasons I visit forums is to get opinions, and "news" about what works, and what doesn't. It's 90% opinion and sometimes unsubstantiated "facts".

There were lots and lots of tales of the China made tires from 5-10 years ago that frequently failed. That chatter was what made me get rid of my Carlisle tires, and of course the fact the two of them failed before they were 2 years old. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't base my actions on one or two opinions, or posts on a forum. But let's face it, the almost unheard of a failure of a Sailun S637 tire is pretty darned impressive.

Yes!

Yep, road hazard coverage for GY tires is an extra fee, which I had not paid. Chris

My Endurance was a road hazard failure. GY said it was not covered, however as a courtesy paid for 1/2 the cost of the replacement. Better than nothing. Chris

Okay, I am curious. If that bolt didn't fit the definition of "Road Hazard", what exactly would? Not kidding, really curious.

Made a claim on roof damage on my RV , tree damage . He wanted to make sure which was moving the fifth wheel or the tree . It was the tree , thatโ€™s comprehensive , fifth wheel moving itโ€™s collision . It was the tree .

If you are polite and firm with Goodyear, they tend to pay for trailer damage. They will first offer to pay your deducible. But politely saying that you do not believe your insurance company should pay for most to the damage their tire caused works for many.

Or just buy Sailun S637s and have a lot less failures. Chris

I think that says it all, as the moderator said about hitch threads these tire threads get old. Itโ€™s proven many times about Goodyear failures and they continue . Yet some persist otherwise. Sailun simply haven proven to be the better tire .

To be clear read my words. I was not positive as to the answer.

I was setting on my MC with kickstand down. Didnโ€™t like position moved a couple feet let bike lean to left BAM CRACK the kickstand had moved up and bike fell against RV.

Called agent she said comp claim $100 deductible. She turned in claim. Adjuster called me told her the story. She said since I was setting on it itโ€™s collision.

So ya never know till ya know for sure!

I believe I paid $1200 CDN out the door for the Sailuns and the G614's would have been well North of $2000. That's a considerable amount of money that could be used for travelling. I already pay for an insurance policy on the fiver so having 2 doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

Not sure how your insurance works in the GreatWhiteNorth but down here a claim like that may cause rates to increase.

Not usually for a comprehensive (non collision) claim.

You are moving. Don't think that gets Comp.

Nice try , but itโ€™s comp. Same if you get bad fuel and that cp4 in your new ram when you get it takes out your fuel system

Correct, it's a comprehensive claim which does not increase your premiums. I experienced this on my F350 when a top class General failed and caused $1500 worth of damage to the truck.
