mounting a safe

I've decided recently that I want to try to mount a safe in my rig. I've been scouting a location for quite some time now and still haven't been able to come up with anything solid. I would like to bolt it or secure it somewhere, I'm not really crazy about going to the floor but I'm having trouble finding the location. Just curious if anyone else has done this and what their suggestions were. Thanks a lot and any input is appreciated

I got the perfect spot in my off-road POPUP trailer inside one of the cabinets floor. Safe would be under the trailer floor with access inside a floor cabinet.

Another good spot might be under the storage area of the pull up bed.

Also in the bed room of my fifth wheel is a sink cabinet with a hole that goes into the pass-through storage area for dropping dirty clothes thru into a basket. That might be a good place for a floor mounted safe

We almost would rather not really use a safe for real valuables and just keep them in the truck cab when on the road.

Having a lock box in the trailer would have its value I guess.

Some think they might want to store a house firearm there but by the time you got it opened up to get to your firearm would probably take too much time... Mine hangs in its holster next to the front door covered with a jacket...

I saw one once in the kitchen area mounted in a door looking fake microwave unit. Thought that was neat...

I recently mounted this small, inexpensive ($69 at Home Depot) safe in the bottom of the closet:



It is thru bolted with large bolts, double nutted and 1.5" SS washers (top and bottom). I had to come in from underneath which involved some disassembly and special tools to reach and torque down the bolts/nuts. Could some miscreant get it out? Probably, but it would involve a lot more time and tools then the average snatch and grab artist is going to have.

I've seen a few under the steps which means that is probably the first place a real thief will look. I would think the floor is the only really "secure" spot since you could totally enclose the safe and make it harder to rip out. They could get it out with a bit of work, but it will make noise and that may be a deterrent.

The other side of the coin is that the thieves see a safe and instantly think "Valuables worth stealing" and may make the effort necessary to get to it. Definitely needs to be out of sight.

On my current trailer I would rather not say, but...

On my previous Outback it was under a step. The self-locking nuts were inside a cabinet. You had to remove a drawer to even see them. It took me about a half hour to get in there and secure them and I figure no hit and run thief is going to go to that much trouble.

I would think the bedroom, I would like to be able to see where I am drilling ,and bolting. It would also enable to add some extra security inside the basement.

If elsewhere I would be careful where you are drilling, and bolting, its hard to say where electrical ,water etc is.

Ours came with the safe built into a cabinet in the front closet of the 5th wheel on the right (door) side of the RV. The cabinet is secured to the floor, wall and ceiling. I'm sure a burglar with a saber saw or sledgehammer could rip it out, but as my dear ole departed Dad used to say, locks only keep honest people honest.
