R values for camping in the heat and second A/C

I am looking at a 35-36' fiver and live in Texas. Summers can be upper 90's to 100.
Will a single 15k AC be big enough? If so what R values do I need to be looking for?
Do I need to go with the 13.5K low profile A/C for the bedroom?

If you camp in the heat and have the second A/C how often do you have to use it?- in your personal camping experience?

I like to sleep at around 76 degrees

Thanks

yes you need 2 a/cs. we turn bedroom a/c off when we sleep, noisy.

the more R-value the better....i suspect they are all about the same. just start checking them out.

Living in AZ, I wish I had a 2nd AC on my 30' rig on occasion. You'll have a lot more cubic =and= deal with humidity to deal with. Get the 2nd unit and make it 13,500. You may not always need it, but when you do, you'll be glad you have it. You might not always find shade and R values are a joke. The walls on most RVs are only 2" thick; you just can't get much insulation in 2".

X2 on volume of air floor is whats often lacking in the bedrooms. Our 5'er only has one duct outlet in the bedroom. When we go to bed we close off all but 1 duct in the living area which greatly increases airflow in the bedroom. This worked fine for us for summer nights. During the day the single 15K A/C ran 100% and kept it ok but not as cool as I'd like. This was in Las Vegas with temps around 105.

In Texas where humidity can be very high the A/C will have to work much harder than in dry states such as AZ at the same temperature.

You could probably get by with one 15K BTU if you had a shade tree for the hot afternoon sun. If it it open with full sun you will need a second 13.5K unit in the BR. I use reflectix in the windows on the sunny side in the afternoons. Awnings/Slide toppers would def help.

There is a big difference in R-values from low end to higher end trailers. The values will be more than double on the roof and floor. Forget the smaller A/c unit for the bedroom. Get the biggest one they can install. You can always turn it down and yes, when it's a hundred outside you will be glad you have it.

You are going to need a second A/C. 9,000BTU will probably be enough. The problem, and we have spent a lot of nights in West Texas, is more distribution than volume. You just can't get enough cool air into the bedroom (at the end of the duct run).

As for R-values. They is what they is. There isn't enough difference between manufacturers to make it a principal point when deciding on a particular trailer. A floor plan you can live with is much more important.

Check out Open Ranges......we found they have the highest R rating of all 5ers (that we could find). We boondock, so we wanted the highest R rating. We camp in AZ and have for 3 times. Last year was the longest stay and didn't feel we needed the AC at night at all. Only a couple of times during the day --- good excuse to go for a beer.
