Snow on Roof

We plan on heading south for a while again last winter. Last year I shoveled 1-1.5ft of snow off of the roof before we left with our TT. Now we have a 5er with more stuff up there and a slope that I'm afraid of breaking something shoveling, or worse hurt myself 🙂

What does everyone do if they head south in mid-Jan and there's snow on the 5er? Will it melt/blow off safely (to others on the road as well as AC, antenna, solar, etc on roof?

Enjoying our Fall weather, but starting to look a couple months ahead...

I haul mine down to central KS from MN in Oct and store it there. I found a great facility only a mile or so from a C.O.E. campground. It's a 10 hr drive coming back empty. Seldom get any amount of snow there and I don't have to tow through a blizzard. Very clean and secure place that's never had a problem up to this point and only $35.00 a month. This is my 4th year there and we will pick up our trailer in Jan and head to AZ.

The day after it quits snowing I go up with a leaf blower and blow it off, if it is real wet I use a broom.

I am afraid it will melt from the top down and cause a leak at the vents. I never leave it on the roof long.

Shovel it off. There will be ice under the snow that will blow off and hit the vehicles behind you, shovel it off or be responsible for the damage to the cars behind you.

In 19 years I have never removed snow from the roof of a semi-trailer. If there was snow on the roof of my 5er I'd just drive it off. I'm not climbing on any roof to shovel it off.

I shoveled mine off last year, it was not fun as it was a warm day and it was wet heavy snow. I did end up breaking a couple of the vent covers.

I think the car wash idea is a good one or else maybe just keep it cleared off all the time so that it doesn't build up, I think that's what I'm going to do this year.

How about hitting a local truck wash before you hit the highway?

Letting the snow and ice blow off as you drive can be dangerous to other drivers, and in a growing number of states is illegal. I keep the accumulation off using a ladder and broom and shovel. It's not a 5er so it's a little easier.

In some states it's against the law to not clear the roof. I had to clean the roof one time now I turn the heat on, park it in the sun or just hope it's cleared off enough before I get to the highway. Best thing I have found is to head south before it snows but everyone can't do that.
