It’s that time again to start doing homework on tires… running 215/75/17.5 and here is what I’ve found-

In terms of cost-

Cheapest- Saliun
Middle- Cooper Work Series RHT
Top- GoodYear G114

Need to save some cash, anyone running the Cooper Work series? I have a friend that purchases a new Grand Design and paid for the Cooper upgrade. That is what he is running but only has 1.5 years of limited use on them.

My RV scales in at 16,750#

Yes, import duties. Change the classification to ST, tires suddenly become =very= competitive in price, without designing a whole new tire. Sell tons of them to make up the difference, yet still selling LT tires at a competitive price, too.

The 16" S637 load G first came out as a LT for trucks and trailers like the 17.5" S637 are now.
I bought six LT S637 load G in 2010 for a GN triaxle trailer. Due to high tariff on imported LT tires Sailun changed lettering to the ST tire to get around those high fees sometimes in the 2010-2011 era (lower costs to the consumer). There now a ST although no changes were made according to Sailun reps/dealers.

Lots of new folks to the trailer towing world so naturally most know little about ST/P/LT tires on trailers or issues/non issues with brands of tires we use on trailers over the years.

I remember that the "word" was that Sailun has simply changed the molds to say "ST", with ST nomenclature, and the carcass was literally identical to the LT tires. No way to confirm this, but this was the scuttlebutt when they hit the market. Many people had been using the LT tires on their trailers of all sorts for several years already.

If I remember it had something to do with import .

FWIW, our 30' GN flatdeck triple axle came with Provider G's. GVW of 21k and the 6 tires give us about 22k load capacity, IIRC. So far, they're holding up well for the small amount of hauling we do.

I'm sure I will get dinged for asking but maybe overinflation if the tires are the ones FTG found? The weights I saw for that trailer seem light, 14,000 base weight and 2300 hitch. I would think it would be more than that. Those 4 tires would provide 19,220 lbs capacity at 125 psi.

I have no idea what you we looking at as our unit has a gross of 17999 and that's only because of the 18K pin box it came with. We've upgraded suspension and king box and are now close to 20K loaded for Full Time, and the tires are rated for 125 cold.

My apologies. I was looking at the JD Power listing for a 2016 Redwood 39MB. It shows a base weight of 13,996 and hitch weight of 2274. I thought that did not look right. Hope your tire troubles are short lived.

We need 12V to comment on his H rated Goodyears , and his problems .I believe he is avoiding this thread , that's not like him . :B If I remember he went Continental ?

But as said in a previous post , I am sure Sailuns have had their issues , and as far as I know this report from Michelle is the first I have read about Sailun other then the Vietnam made that ended up on recall because of a bad batch .

I'll be the Wet Blanket here: This morning on I90 approx 25 miles East of Cleveland doing 65, tire temps all norm and within a couple of degrees of each other, Pressure 135 (set cold @ 125) again all four within a couple of pounds of each other. Tires are 4 years old with 24K miles on them.
Left Front BLEW with a Bang, took out the fender skirt and bent up the J-Panel.
This is my second Sailun to fail, had one couple of years ago threw off the complete tread, but never lost pressure so don't know when or where it happened.

Sorry to hear of your damage Michelle!

You gave an honest report, and from a person that understands tire care, and things to watch for. Hope you are still road worthy, until you can get parts and repair. J-panel shipping can be slow and expensive.

Seems any tire can fail, even though some have a stellar track record in comparison.
