We are upgrading to a fiver which will be about 13 feet tall, looking for a good rv or trucker gps unit and map, for safe routing. Interstates are easy, but what about heading down scenic routes? What does everyone use over the road??

Happy Trails
Thanks

At over 12'6" I seldom worry about bridge height. Stay off of NY state parkways. Don't try any covered bridges. Avoid very minor roads that might go under RRs. Pay attention to signs warning of height clearance unless you have some special local knowledge. Best of all, if semis are going the other way it is pretty safe to assume that there is more than enough height.

Well over 100,000 trailer miles, plenty in New England, & nothing hit yet.

Route 1 is a low clearance database that can be added to all common GPS units as well as Google/Apple maps. $75 one time fee for all of the US and Canada with lifetime updates. Over 8,000 data points whereas most GPS and maps only come with about 1500. Check them out at www.lowclearances.com.

I use the Garmin DEZEL 770. It allows you to program and select Cars or Truck options. The truck option will route you trip to avoid low bridges. The Screen is 7 inches making it read as you are bouncing down the roads. It also has a "voice command" feature which allows to make changes with just your voice. no hands necessary.

I use the Garmin RV 760, and also RVParky for a backup device.

I use the "RVParky" app on my smartphone. Within the app you create an account, and then fill in the details about your RV including its height.
The app will display warnings about any bridges or overpasses along your route which are too low.
