Ultimate tire and wheel combo

I have done some searching and haven't found any info on these. 17.5 Wheels
17.5 tires
I'm looking at the 215/75R17.5 Load Range H Sailun S637 Radial Tire for $265 These tires are crazy tough with a rating of 4800lbs. When talking with the guys at this site they say if you pull less than 10k miles per year these tires will last 7 years in which he recommends all trailer tires should be changed out. From what I gather these are a commercial size.

If you want to stay with 16's they also have these 16"

Just finished our 5th season on MICHELIN XTE2 -- 235 75R 17.5 J tires rated at 6005 lbs. Just took them off to check the tires and disk brakes. No cracks whatsoever, look great. Tread depth is 13/32.
Got the whole combo Alcoa wheels and tires at Rickson Truck Wheels

Been a very happy camper. Enjoy the holidays.

As a matter of fact, the kids were on their way to DRV in Howe, IN to have some cabinet mods and general maintenance done when this happened. I don't have a photo of the damage, but I believe it only broke the plastic flare around the wheel well opening and scuffed some paint on the lower metal section of the sidewall below the trim strip. IIRC, DRV only charged something like $850 for the repair.

Wow it's amazing that the tire was still holding air.

Actually, the tire failed on I-65 about 10 miles south of Louisville, KY. They managed to limp on in on what you see to the Goodyear Wingfoot truck tire center that's located just across from Ford's Louisville truck assembly plant where they got a replacement tire. The Wingfoot tire center opened the warranty claim with Goodyear and shipped the remnants of the failed tire directly to Goodyear's Akron, OH headquarters.

How much damage did it cause? Any pics of that?

Thanks Rusty!

After seeing how thick the rubber tread portion is I can see why these tires are HEAVY!

It would be interesting to know what caused the tread to separate like that. First GY "H" tire failure I have seen or heard of.

Certainly. As requested:

Their TPMS gave no indication of pending temperature or pressure problems prior to the failure. After the failure, the remaining carcass was still holding full air pressure.

I can't say if Goodyear is standing behind the current Marathons, but they've paid for repairs and supplied new tires for past failures of Marathons (1996 Jayco Designer 3030RKSS) and G614 RSTs (2004 DRV Mobile Suites 36RE3). They just covered the failure of a G114 on our daughter and son-in-law's 2011 Mobile Suites 36TKSB3. IMHO, it's worth submitting the Marathon failure to Goodyear's system.

The 17.5" H GY tire Rusty mentioned is the ONLY 17.5 GY tire I have heard of that went bad.

I was amazed at how thick the tread is on the that tire. Rusty would you please post pic of the tire missing part of it's tread?

thanks

Do the better tires GY Michelin fail catastrophically like the Chinese brands?

NO

But some of the Michelin B.F.Goodrich Commercial T/A's do and BFG would not warranty mine. I understand that they have replaced them with a different construction.

GY is the only one that does and will pay for non road hazard damages that I know of.

I wonder of GY Marathons have the same warranty?

I believe they do. Many people that had problems with the Marathon were given a deal or complete replacement with the G tires along with paying for damages. Bottom line give GY your tire don't throw it away if you have a problem.

If anyone is thinking of upgrading, here's another website that I used when I upgraded our previous Mobile Suites from 16" G-rated Goodyear G614 RSTs to 17.5" Michelin XTAs. I've been extremely satisfied with their prices and service:

Not another website. The same one the OP listed. :B

But thanks for sharing the input. I look forward to dealing with them.

The OP didn't list a website, only a blind link entitled "17.5" tires". I don't bother following blind links. Sorry that my listing of an identified link to a vendor website bothered you.
