Why do Cameos sit on the dealer's lots for so long?

Like 6+ months? Why do they not sell quickly? Is it due to the weight? Being 15K+? Are people preferring the newer, lighter rigs?

Price, weight, orphan.

Our last 5er a Glendale Titanium became an orphan in 2010 and the trade in dollars in 2014 had dropped like a lead sinker. It sat on the dealer's lot for over a year.

Our last TT, a Sunline Solaris became an orphan ----- and you know the rest of that story.

The TT before - again, an orphan but was a nice starter RV for a young family and was sold at a reasonable price.

We looked at many to replace the Titanium and opted for a well known unit, a Montana, over several brands that may have been better equipped or fancier looking but may have limited resaleability in 5-7 years --- as orphans

They also bought out the rushmore line to. I purchased a 41ft Lincoln that had been sitting on the lot for over a year. The dealer had changed brands to jayco so I guess they couldn't sell it. It was 95 msrp after it sat I got it for 59 have had a few issues but getting them all worked out.

Evergreen is now building Carriage style units. Using former Carriage employees and building techniques.
If you are truly after a Cameo you may want to check out Evergreen vs.overpaying for a used Cameo.

Carriage RV's do hold their resale very high but some go overboard because they are willing to wait to get close to what they want for them or just keep'em. Another factor is that Carriage RV owners are usually not motivated to sell as they can't replace the quality of their Carriage RV with about any of the cheaper made corner cutting RV offerings being built today. Most are on light weight Lippert frames and that doesn't set well with a lot of knowledgeable RV'ers. Especially the full timers as their RV is their HOME!

Occasionally, a owner or RV used sales lot will get motivated to sell for one reason or another and will drop the price and usually then they sell quickly. It's all about the almighty dollar!

I wanted to buy a Carriage Cameo because of the quality and reputation. When they shut down I started looking at used units and the prices were very high. I watched for a couple of years and people thought they had gold I guess. I finally gave up the idea and kept my Aplenlite for another couple of years.

I traded in a 2006 Holiday Rambler back in 2011 and the trailer was still on the lot until early this year.

Ultimately orphaned units become stranded because unfamiliar buyers are not willing to purchase an unsupported unit.
Owners are unwilling to bite the bullet and realize orphan units are hardered to sell. The longer the units sit the more there price erodes and the more buyers become uninterested.
I had placed an order for a Cameo days before they went under. My money was refunded.

I have been eyeing one with a for sale sign but the household cfo won't let me stop. It has been there at least a year so probably the same problem, wants too much.

Three years ago we looked at a beautiful carriage with a great layout and an atrium. It was on consignment and owned by some old folks that bought in florida. We offered a reasonable price but the lady said she wanted more. Well, the thing sat there for a total of four years with several leaks in the atrium slide. The thing is now trash. What a shame for a beautiful trailer.

Could it be that people avoid orphans?

Carriage went out of business about 18 months ago.

Anything made by successor companies may have a Cameo name on it but is not "Cameo" quality.
