Home school and permanent address???

We may be going on the road for a few months this fall in search of a new home. I am finding it difficult to obtain good info on homeschooling and permanent addresses. The kids will be enrolled in our local school for a few months. If we make the move, I plan to homeschool them until we decide where we want to settle. We may stay in a few different states along the way. Has anyone else done this? If so how did you do it and any advice would be appreciated. In addition to that, how do full timers keep a permanent address somewhere? And what do we need to do for mail forwarding? Thanks in advance.

I'm still checking in on the thread. My son's apartment is actually in my name and I am listed on the lease so I think I may be able to get away with that as an address. I may just have to register the vehicles early so I will have a year left on the tags when we leave. I know there has to be a way to do this so I am still researching.

Many/most? states will not allow you use a mail forwarding service street address for drivers licenses, vehicle registration, and voting.

SD, TX and FL are full timer friendly states and most full timers choose one of them.
They do allow you to use a mail forwarding service street address as your legal domicile address.

I would be surprised if your state will allow you to use your son's college address for a legal domicile. You should check on that.

HSLDA is your friend. The link is posted a couple post further up. Laws vary from state to state. My kids have never stepped foot in a classroom, and we graduated one last year. There are many ways to home school, you have to look at what fits your lifestyle and go with it.

Sandpiper1, There is several mail services you could use. Many in states that are tax friendly like South Dakota for instance. You can become a fulltime resident of that state if you want and do the complete full time deal. Or simply have an address there for shorter term and have mail service.

Thanks for the great information all. I think we have some of it solved. My son will have an address at college we can use and he can forward our mail. I think if we need to home school we will just enter the Kansas program under the assumption we will return to Kansas at some point, although we never will.

Our daughter is homeschooled using citizens high school works out Greg she just turned 18 and will be starting college next year check them out citizens high school

Given that most of us here a just a tad beyond the age group where we need to consider this sandpiper1 I suggest you look at this website which may be a starting point for your thinking.

I am away that there are quite a few people who do travel with children and that there are many support groups out there that can help with the legalities etc.
