I should be back on the road again soon. I’ve been full timing for the last two years but since October I haven’t done much traveling. My traveling hiatus began when I got seduced into going back to Houston to sell an oil prospect of mine. On the way back to Houston my engine developed what I thought was a noisy lifter, then about the time I arrived in Houston oil prices crashed killing the market for my “unconventional” oil prospect. I spent the winter in Houston; however Houston’s not my favorite place to live so I made plans to leave in early spring only to learn that my “lifter noise” was actually a failing engine. FWIW there’s a discussion in the Class A section maintenance section titled, My Engine replacement odyssey - 1994 HR, about how I left Houston for a friend’s place in San Marcos where I parked on his concrete slab and replaced my failing engine. After nine months back in Texas I have a new factory rebuilt engine and I’m finally getting ready to turn the key! YEEEHAAA!!! Where to go, where to go! Part of me wants to visit Carbondale, IL (where I went to college, got a degree and generally had a great time for 6 years) and then to NE Illinois where I lived a large part of my life and have many friends I haven’t seen in a long time. Another part of me wants to travel to Santa Fe, NM. I’m leaning towards Illinois because starting this year I’m planning on making southeast Arizona my annual winter destination and since I’m currently in Texas I’d shave off a lot of future road miles by doing the Illinois trip now.
