1993 Newmar DP. What weight of fluid??

What type of fluid do I need to use in my hydraulic system reservoir?
I just replaced the lines and the filter and it looked like it had ATF in it. I've read that it should use 10w-40 oil and also read ISO-32 hydraulic fluid. It's a 1993 Newmar Kountry Star with an 8.3 Cummins on a Spartan chassis.

My '03 Dutch Star uses the ISO-32 hydraulic fluid. It isn't what I would call a widely stocked fluid, but any hydraulic parts dealer usually has it. Difficult to find in anything smaller than five gallon containers and even harder to get in my reservoir since the clearance is extremely tight for the filler. I use a cheap Harbor Freight hand pump to accomplish the refill.

There is a decal on the reservoir on mine that specifies the fluid type.

My 94 diesel Bounder calls for automatic transmission fluid in the Power Gear hydraulic system.

And, even on the hydraulic system (side radiator fans and/or power steering) there is no "here is what all of them use.

We have had coaches that called for ATF and one that called for Delo 400 15-40. Not a matter of better/worse, but what the system was designed to use.

The OP was talking about the CHASSIS engine system fluid. The "tell" was, he stated he changed the filter/s. There are NO filters on a HWH or any Jack system. Doug

I was apparently mistaken, but by referring to a filter and resevoir I thought the OP was referring to the fluid that runs his fan and his power steering, not the jacks.

Sorry about that!

Call Newmar-- have your VIN handy and they should be able to help.

Or- go to Newmar support site --- go to the section that says coach specific, put in the ID info and go look at everything about your coach
