B+ motorhomes

I just bought a Trail Lite B+ 211s with 8.1 Chevy
engine. This is my fifth motorhome (others range
from an old 20' Vagabond, and three Winnegagos, from 19 to 32'. This vehicle is fantastic. I am
using it as a mobile office (and sneaking in a fun
journey from time to time). It gets about 9.5mpg
and I believe I could pull a bus behind it if I wanted! I paid low $40's which is about what I had expected to pay for a five or six year old Chinook with a nicer interior, but fewer features
(slide). I am delighted thus far.

My 'regular' tire shop is a registered installer for Discount. He beats their prices for me all the time and provides honest advice on the best buy for the money and application.

Discount Tire, singular, has stores all over the USA and are great to do business with.

Your link Discount Tire takes you to a singular "Discount Tire" versus Discount Tires takes you to a plural "Discount Tires".

Burlmart - Glad you called "discount tire" and learned that they only sell passenger car tires. I suspected that based on the pricing. You saved me a phone call.

Based on the pictures you posted in Judgment of Pictures of Sidewalls of 6.5 yr Tires, I would be looking for new front tires. I might postpone the rears for next year. That is a decision only you should make for yourself.

I have always had a little different opinion on tire replacement. I have frequently purchased new tires per axle versus entire vehicle. I always seemed to be too poor to write that bigger check for all four tires on my cars when I was younger.

I have been more than pleased with the "Generals" that came with mine. Have had zero problems, ride seems to be smooth when the air pressure is set for the load being carried, seem to be quiet, and had good traction when driving in the Colorado mountains during a snow storm. The big semi's were pulled over for chaining up and we merely drove around them.

Might use this website as a price check point - TireRack.COM.

cheeze1 - I know exactly on what you speak. Been thinking it is time. I have over 35k, but tires only look about 40% gone. Sidewalls still look good cause it is stored indoors when not out traveling. I don't know how you balance time, mileage, cost, etc. I have had new tires blow out. I have driven on 20 year old tires on the farm tractors without problems. Found this website - Discount Tire. I have been satisfied with my Generals thus far so am leaning towards replacing with the same.

Gene

I found this earlier talk on tires that sorta answers my question. I called your Discount Tires people, and they pointed out that their tires are for passenger cars only.

Still would like your opinion on just replacing the front tires on my rig.

What tires do you have, and what is your thinking about their age/condition?

Orion 42 - Thanks for the heads-up. If my toilet is molded to the black water tank as yours is I may wait to tackle this project. I've been "gonna" do this bathroom for the last 7 or 8 years...lol. The thing is, for me the Trail-lite is ideal and like cheeze1 the bathroom is a lot better than a Class B.

Orion, I had a similar situation with our master bath in our last house. Upon removing all the fixtures including the bath, I found the floor under the corner shower to be rotted beyond repair. (it was a 60's house). I ended up cutting away everything up to the bottom plate for the walls, installing sisters and then replacing the plywood and then adding wonderboard. I had the luxury of an open work area, but I understand your frustration.
RJ, One thing my wife and I decided after we 'discovered' BPlus type rv's was that we did not want to have the same bath compromise Class B owners deal with. Turns out it was a great decision.

RJ, I have a 211 with bathroom as shown in top picture. I had to replace a section of water-damaged floor and found it impossible to get the shower/toiled-base out to replace the floor underneath. Not sure what the secret to that is, but it seems the toilet base is bonded to the blackwater tank and would have to be cut to separate. I ended up cutting the floor in as far as I could reach with the shower unit in-place and sliding a new floor section underneath.

RJ, you can now see why this thread has lasted all these years, we have become a group of old friends without even seeing each other in person. I will get the dimensions asap, the 213 is due for a visit anyway. I didn't realize how much bigger my bath is than your model. What size is your bath, 30x34?
I also did a redesign of the sleeping arrangements. If you search the thread back a couple of years, you can see what I did. Basically I copied the concept of the Bornfree Built for Two.

Thanks for the response, guys. Gene - I've never come across the floor plan and I've never come across another Trail-lite with the dining configuration I have! Thanks for posting it, I can now add it to my "spec" info. And Cheese1 when it's convenient I would appreciate the dimensions from your shower. I have considered a 24"x 24" pan but I don't know if I can make it fit. I do not want to change the position of the shower drain or the toilet. Plus in addition to the faucets, I will be repositioning the shore power box. Anyway we'll figure it out. I redesigned the bed, added drop-leaf to the stove and sink cabinets, now it's the shower/toilet. Luv my Trail-lite!
