Broken Trimark RV door lock (06-650)

I went out to our 2010 Jayco Melbourne and when I tried to unlock the door to the coach, I found that it would NOT unlock. I then entered the RV by way of the Ford E-450 entry door. I tried to open the coach door from the inside, only to find out that the deadbolt would unlock, BUT the latch assembly would not retract allowing the door to open.
After looking on this website I found that I am not the only one to have this problem. Had there been a need to evacuate the RV in a hurry due to any emergency, that locked door would have delayed our exit --- definitely a safety issue.
Now that I know what the problem is --- I need help fixing it. A part in the latch assembly is broken, preventing the door from opening. I ordered a replacement door lock and tried to remove the old, defective lock. Although there are only 3 screws holding the 2 parts of the lock "sandwich" together, when those screws are removed, the screen door and the door jamb prevent the removal of the inside panel.
I contacted the manufacturer of the Trimark lock and they e-mailed a diagram of the lock. It only shows which part is broken --- not how to remove the defective lock.
Can any of you that may have had this same problem explain/have access to u-tube info on how to remove the old lock? Even a photo of the inner works of the door lock might help.

Do you already have the PDF that is on this page on the specification tab? Trimark 06-0650 It has views that at least let you know where the parts are located inside.

I find it somewhat amusing that the page has this warning.....

I was able to find some links that showed where to drill on a different Trimark lock, but not this model.

P.S. This is the lock I have in my rig. I will be following this thread to see what the steps are to remove it if it breaks in the locked position.

I've tried putting my shoulder into the door to release some pressure and that did nothing. When I turn the key to the lock you can feel NO resistance so I'm confident that a part is broken inside. The people from Trimark agreed. Some how I need to get into the latch assembly and get it to retract. Thanks for the input so far and hopefully this will have a happy ending.

We have a new 2015 Itasca. I haven't looked to see what make lock is on it. But if the door is not closed tight, You can not open the door. You have to put your shoulder into it to get it closed all the way. Then it will open.

REVISED REPLY WITH ADJUSTMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

I had the same or similar problem with a Trimark lock mechanism. Nothing was broken, it required adjustment using a deep 7/16 socket to turn a nut through the hole in edge of door. I contacted Trimark and described my "paddle type" lock mechanism. The technician sent me illustrated instructions via e-mail, text as follows:

"Nut Adjustment for BOTH Foam Core and Metal Door

1. Close the rotor (door?)
2.Lock the handle from the inside using the lower manual lock lever.
3.While pulling up on the inside handle, manually (No power)turn the nut clockwise until the latch releases.
4. Manually turn the nut counterclockwise 1+1/4 to 1+1/2 turns
5. Unlock the door and open door from the inside handle. The latch should release before the inside handle reaches maximum travel.
6. CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE INSIDE HANDLE DOES NOT OPEN THE DOOR WHEN IT IS LOCKED."

Somewhat confusing, I had to try this a number of times until it worked. Good luck!

The problem you will run into is that although they look the same, the latch pins on the new lock are larger than the ones in the old door.
Therefore the striker plate(which comes with the lock( has to be replaced. In our case, it had to be removed from the inside, as it would not come thru the cutout in the door facing. Found out that we could have released the latch and removed the striker plate from inside with no trouble at all.

Had the same problem, learned the hard way how to resolve it. Too late this evening to do anything, but I will go out tomorrow and try to get some pictures of ours and try to help. If you can, try to get a couple of pictures of the door from inside and post them. That is the same lock that I had to deal with. BTW, the 0650 lock has been replaced by the 1650, which is a better lock. It was a drop in replacement, except for one critical area( that is a show-stopper!). Post some pictures, and I will be glad to give details on how to get it open and fix it. Can't do utube as ours has already been fixed (the hard way).
