I am towing my car for the first time this season. When I put it on the dolley I have a 5-1/2" clearance from the bottom of the spoiler to the ground. I measured a few speed bumps at the park I'm at currently and the clearance seems enough. Any comments?

Go to your local Wal-Mart. Go to the RV section and look for the "h" shaped extension. It's around $30.00 or so. BUY IT. take it home and put it on the receiver on the back of your M/H so that you will be able to raise your tow ball. You will see what I mean.. Hook up your tow dolly. Just put your car on the dolly and measure the clearance.
If you aren't happy with the results take the "h' back to Wal-Mart for a refund.

It worked for me on that trip. Remember sometimes you might have to pull into a place that has a steep incline off a level street. I've dragged the rollers under my bumper on the m/h a couple of times. So when your tow dolly enters that same incline you might drag the bumper of the toad. It happens. You just have to watch were you drive your M/H and avoid going into a parking lot that has a steep incline like that.
Speed bumps are not an issue if you creep across them.
I can't find a name on it. It has 15" tires and the height of where the car tires sit is 14" off the ground. I have photos of it but not sure how to attach it to this reply.
They sell a hitch entender that is shaped like and "h". It locks into the receiver on your M/H just like your ball does. It has 2 places to slide your ball bar into and lick into place with the big slide pin.
That "h" can be used to raise or lower the tow ball level. I put mine on to lower the ball, this raised the rear end of the dolly by about 6". That also lowered the rear of my car down to about a 5 1/2" clearance. Drove 3,000 miles without Toyota dragging the back bumper.
In your case, you can reverse the "h" and slide it in the receiver to raise the ball on your hitch. Raising the ball will lower the area your front tires are tied down to a couple of inches. Like a kids teeder todder works. That will raise the ass end of your car a couple more inches off the ground.
I've been pulling my Pontiac Vibe (same body as Matrix) for 51,000 miles on a Demco KarKaddy SS and never had a clearance problem. Based on the OP's other posts he has a BMW toad but can't find what dolly he is using. It would be nice to know as someone else may have the same configuration.
