Car rentals at campgrounds

Sorry for the 5er signature but rv.net hasn’t fixed there site yet to let us change it!

We bought a Georgetown motor home 4 weeks ago and are discussing the options of buying a towable truck of just renting cars when we get to various campsites.

The only site we have looked at is Enterprise who will allow us to become members and give them information on both of us so we can drop each other off and one person rents the car allowing both to drive it.

Are there any other members who rent instead of towing a car? If so, who do you rent from and how has the experience been?

I rented once and it was a pain, probably won't do it again.

We have rented from time to time as we do not tow. Most of the time it worked out well. One time we were planning on renting but lo and behold there were no rental agencies in the nearby town, only one and only one cab.

When we are only going a short distance the wife will drive a car for us to use. We did find this quite handy one time. We were at our local state park just 20 miles away but ended up having to have the MH towed. Having the car was a good thing.

For the most part, having a car in tow out weighs not.

We rented once also. We only took a short trip to SD, didn't want to pull the toad.
However, that was a tad pricey for my wallet. I having our own toad along, gives you so much more freedom.

We rented a car once and that was it.

For us, we like the security of a lifeboat (our car) being behind the MH. In case of an emergency while camped, we have instant access to a vehicle to get to Dr, Vet, hospital...........whatever we need. In case of a MH breakdown, we can still go see local sites.

Many small towns do not have rental cars available. So, no one can decide for you. For some this works but for us, not at all. Even getting groceries becomes a big issue with no car and sometimes limited parking near stores. Good luck with your decision and travel safe.

We rent from Hertz and Enterprise. They will come to your campsite if you are within 25 miles. Last time I call Hertz they told me we were 26 miles away and we had to pick up the car.
