Chevy Workhorse column mounted gear indicator- add ons?

I find the factory gear indicator on my 2001 Winnebago Brave to be at an impossible position to easily view while driving. I'm forced to lean forward and view down the column to see the factory unit, and even then it's not an easy read. Is there possibly an aftermarket product that can display the current gear in some other location?

Thanks-

Since the rig was purchased used and it's my first, I had no idea the factory indicator was lighted as suggested in an earlier response. My first thing will be to try and locate the the bulb and replace it since there is no illumination right now. If that's not sufficient I'll consider this solution you've suggested.

I can think of ways to make one but I do not know of any.. I mean you can always count detents, that is how I do it normally. But I could never teach my wife to do that always had to show her the indicator.
