Coach Batteries

Looks like I will be replacing my coach batteries in the near future, they (only have 2) aren't holding a charge very long, this happened a few months ago & I found they were low on water & the cable hookups needed cleaning very bad, I fixed this problem, but now they are not holding the charge again for more than a few weeks & I do have the 12 volt switch in the off position when at home.

What batteries should I be looking to buy, we only use the RV about 6 months of the year & that only for 3 or 4 days at a time.

I replaced all my house batteries with Interstate rated the same as the originals.
The ones I have now I replaced in 2013. I keep them charged all the time with a trickle charger.
If I canโ€™t keep it plugged in, I use the power cut off for long term.
If you donโ€™t have a power cut off in you unit, itโ€™s easy to add one to your batteries.
They will last.
Also, I use the easy fill battery fill system I got at Camping world to add distilled water.
Makes it easy to add and you canโ€™t overfill.

Rural King has 6v golf cart batteries for 79.99 and there is no membership at these stores, if there might be one near you.
About to replace six in my golf cart and will go this route as well.
Sam's Club are $90 with a membership, so.....
For our coach, we bit the bullet when we purchased in 16 and went with four 12v AGM's. Yep, expensive, but no more checking and watering, which is a real pain, on our coach.

I tried it many years ago and the battery did not last any longer, but I am only one person.

I'm not saying they'll last any longer - I doubt they will, the last set lasted 9 years.

What the mineral oil has done is greatly reduce my needed maintenance and all of the out-gassing corrosion.

And?

You could try equalizing them with a good overcharge before replacing them. That will sometimes bring them back from the abuse of running out of water.

Do you have an inverter with that capability?

We don't boon dock & I use the generator when not plugged in.

Yup just get two 12 volt battery's if thats whats in there now.

Get agm this way you do not need to check water or anything like that.

If there are 2 six volts there just put 2 of them back in there as the wiring would be the same.

if you dont go agm then you will need to check the water often.

we dont know what you can fit so its hard to give you links.or whats in there now...

We use golf cart batteries and I do the mineral oil trick.

Virtually zero out-gassing corrosion and I've added water once in... I think we're into our 3rd year now. I'll have to look at up and confirm.

***Update*** I just looked it up, I installed the batteries in July of 2016. They're doing even better than I was thinking they were.

On a side note, man I getting old! I can't believe how fast time is going by.
