Galley TV in Coachmen 319DS - practical?

I'm kind of liking the Coachmen 391DS lately. But, i'm curious about this Pop-up Electric Lift TV in the galley. (See pic below) It seems to me like a busy kitchen, with all the food/liquids, doesn't mix well with electronics. Yet, there it is.



Does anybody have any better informed opinions than I do? Experience?

Hi,
I have a 2013 319DS with the same TV coming out of the counter. Rest assured that there is a seal under the bottom of the countertop that protects the electronics from spills. I've had my unit for about 8 months now and have taken it to Washington DC and spent weekends in and around state parks in Texas and have very few (minor) issues with this coach since purchasing new back in February. I was worried about the TV as well but after reviewing the grommet/seal around the counter and actually having a couple of accidents with liquid, I was relieved to see that none of it went to the TV.

We just purchased the same floor plan and I also had the same concern. With that said, the lid does seal pretty nicely on the counter top. I plan to add a thin layer of weatherstripping between the lid / counter top to ensure the seal stays nice and tight. I also preferred this location for the TV primary due to the viewing angle.

We just go our 319DS a few month back after also looking at the Forester which has the same floor plan with an overhead TV. It was a trade off between having the TV pop out of the counter vs the overhead. In the end we liked the larger TV and the viewing angle (eye level) vs a smaller TV and having to look up and get a sore neck. Because it is so close to the sink there is for sure a potential of liquids seeping in. However, upon closer inspection when we were deciding to purchase the 319DS, I noticed that when the "lid" contacts the counter top, the TV continues to travel downwards for another 3-4". The "lid" has 2 posts that is able to slide with ease up and down on the TV carriage. As a result if any liquids did get between the lid and the counter top, it would probably wick under the counter top away from the TV. In order to make it harder for any liquid to get in there, I removed the very thin factory foam tape attached to the underside of the lid and replaced with a thicker and more robust closed cell foam weather stripping.

I am suprised the TV doesnt come up an extra 5 inches or so out of counter top. That would make me feel more comfortable having it there.

-The "lid" over the TV will probably keep most liquids from ending up inside the TV
-LCD TVs seem more resilient to just about everything. I've dragged one around for presentations, and it gets thrown in the car trailer with everything else. It's been dropped, and set out on the rain, and I'm sure had stuff spilled on/in it. Never had a problem.
-They're pretty cheap now, so in the even it did poop out.... Not a huge loss.

I love that floorplan, and I like the pop-up TV too. I prefer an "out-of-site" TV because frankly I don't watch them much.

I have Itasca's version of that floor plan, although mine doesn't have the bedroom slide out. The TV is in the same location, but mounted on the wall. You would really have to work at it to spill something on that TV.

When we were looking for a new RV I saw several that had the same galley TV set-up. My first reaction was "YIKES" no way should a TV be in the galley around all that water, food, and whatever other stuff ends up on the counter. You just know somebodys gonna spill the Pepsi that will then find its way into/onto the TV!
