Help w/route in Tennessee...

I'm going to be traveling North from Birmingham on I-65 going to Lebanon, Tn. I want to take 840 from 65 but according to Streets & Trips, 840 shows "Red" meaning under construction. Question: how bad is it and would it pay me to go on into Nashville rather than 840? Thanks/ Larry

For clarification, 840 from I-65 to the east has been open for at least a couple of years, if not longer. 840 from I-65 WEST to I-40 was just opened early Nov 2013 - it was the last segment to be completed.
