House Battery

I just replaced the House Battery in my motorhome and it does not appear to be working. Seemed simple enough to disconnect the old and then replace with the new....but as usual for me, it's never easy!

Not sure if there was something I missed and I have checked the fuses.

Any suggestions?

Fuse?

The idea of following the wires with a voltmeter will surely find the problem and increase your knowledge of the wiring system.

I have a battery disconnect switch located by the door. Maybe it was accidently actuated???

Mine is under the bed on the passenger side. It consists of the converter, fuses and circuit breakers and the battery disconnect relay. I have never heard it called a BCC but I guess it qualifies. The MH is a 2005 28A.

I was told it is the Battery Control Center.

Did you leave one of the smaller gage wires disconnected when you replaced the battery? Was your previous battery supplying power to the interior lights,
etc.? Is there a reset button somewhere in the battery compartment?

So the battery is good, fuses are good and poles are hooked correctly.... still does not power anything. The Coach battery disconnect switch also does not engage. I do have power when plugged or when the generator is on. Just nothing from the battery....Is there some other switch I could be missing?

Before the depression, I did a lot of work on pleasure boat electrics. I found that as soon as there was more than one wire to a battery post, the chances of mis-connection skyrocketed. So, when ever I had the chance, I would re-work the system to be on cable to each post.

So, Look for the loose wire that you forgot to put on the stack.

It seems the most common mistake made in connecting a new battery is to connect the positive and negative wires to the wrong terminals. You can't always depend on the color of the wires to indicate which is the positive and negative wires. If you are sure it is connected right, you will probably want a voltmeter to trouble shoot the wiring.

Check the voltage at the battery, positive post to negative post. If ok there, move along the wires, both positive and negative, one step at a time and check for voltage. When you no longer have a voltage, that's where your problem is.

If you don't have a voltmeter you could use a light bulb with wires connected to it, but a light bulb doesn't indicate polarity.

Check the new battery for 12VDC (bad battery?). Double check connections: pos-pos, neg-neg. Make sure that the house battery cutoff switch is ON. Check for 12VDC at the fuse panel.
