At present, I'm still battling which system I want to use. MCD is superior in ease of mounting but, SERIOUSLY more costly per blind. The thought of removing the side valances so we could purchase and use this new version of United rollers is not sitting well with both of us.

I'm going back to the old pleated day/night shades -- much much cheaper and they should last longer.

Though most of my pleated shades were still working after over a decade of use in my 2001 Newmar DP, I replaced all of them with MCD manual shades 6 years ago. Of those 7 MCD shades, 3 do not work. I've adjusted (or tried to adjust) them several times. No more MCDs for me, and apparently other folks . . . see this IRV2.com thread.

Well gang,
I looked into Blind Chalet and their version of roller blinds a couple of years ago. If I recall, at least in the manual version, a Blind Chalet (United) that was/is the exact same size as an MCD version, was/is close to about 1/2 price of the MCDs. Since it's been a while, I'd have to recheck that to be sure. It wasn't only the price that I was investigating. It was the mounting systems for both. The mounting system for the United ones back when I was checking them out, could come in two different fashions.

The ends of the rollers either had wall mounting or ceiling mounting. Ceiling mounting meaning they would mount to the underside of a valance, not the ceiling of the coach. MCD shades have a seriously easier mounting system. It's a form of a clip that is mounted on the underside of the valance. Then, the frame of the MCD shades is "clipped" into those clips, DONE. In case any of you are familiar with horizontal mini-blinds, they have the same style clip for the center of longer mini-blinds.

The problem we have, in our '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330HP CAT is, the valances are not very deep. That makes it impossible to get a screw driver, with screws, to mount the United type shades up into and inside, our valances. And, not all of our valances are built the same. Some are stand-alone and some are part of the bottom of a cabinet and or sides.

In the video that the OP links, it appears maybe that the mounting system of the United version roller shades, have changed. That video shoes a very easy mounting, IF YOU HAVE A COMPLETELY BLANK WALL, ON THREE SIDES OF A WINDOW. Of course it would only take two minutes to mount that style system. But, when you have to deal with factory, very hard to remove valances, the "Two minute mounting" is out the window, (so to speak).

If any of you have side valances that encapsulate both sides of your present day-night shades, you'll know what I'm dealing with. I'm tired of re-stringing day-night shades. Done it many times and, am fed up with it. I want roller shades.

I dealt with the two women at Blind Chalet way back when I was investigating and, like has been stated, those two were an absolute pleasure to deal with. They bent over backwards to work with their roller shade builders to send me a couple of ends of their roller shades so I could experiment with their mounting system and see if it would work.

At present, I'm still battling which system I want to use. MCD is superior in ease of mounting but, SERIOUSLY more costly per blind. The thought of removing the side valances so we could purchase and use this new version of United rollers is not sitting well with both of us.

1. They would be great for stand alone on the wall above the window
2. MOST (ALL) OEM's install motorized shades behind their own custom wood valances.
3. Van Motorhomes also install behind custom built in valances.
4. The MAIN drawback to Motorized shades either RF or switch controlled is the programming. If you look at the Video for these shades you will notice the ease of accessing the programming up and down screw pots. THAT is the problem with Motorized shades. ACCESSING THE UP AND DOWN STOPS FOR PROGRAMMING.
5. Unless you free mount these shades with its own Valance, it will still be difficult to program as access will also be severely restricted.
6. So, COST is the only real factor with these shades. If they are competitive or cheaper than Auto Motion or MCD, then they will make headway. IF the OEM's do not buy these for OEM install(they will not buy the ones with built in valances), then they will fade away.
7. These are a great option for RV's that have open spaces above the windows to mount them. Doug

PS, Odds are they have been introduced recently and will be at the Louisville RV show this week trying to get OEM's on board. BTW, they will cost a LOT more than $200 $200 is the cost of MANUAL spring shades. Doug

so 200$ for a 60 inch and 200$ for a 30 inch? seems odd ?

Where are you seeing that???

if u read the posts the previous poster made a blanket statement that they sold for $200 ;;
I said it would seem odd that they all sold for $200 surely the 30 inch are like 150 and the 60 inch maybe 350 and again these are hypothetical suggestions
as iam trying to get a feel for pricing

Go here.

This will give you an approximate cost for single night/ double day/ night shades.
Call them tomorrow and get the price for the Impulse, including the remote, and light, if you want both of those.

Camping World is NOT the place to purchase these

They are available in any size, I believe up to 144”, at 1/8” increments. Any length also.

I recommend you give United Shade a call. The girls there are very sweet, and will answer the questions you have.

Cheapest place I have found to order them is Blind Chalet. They regularly have a 45- 48% off sale. Just sign up for their emails, and they send you discount codes whenever they are available.

BTW, those Impulse Shades are killer. A traveling buddy of ours has them with both the light, and power. Awesome!

United Shade does not sell to the public... Only to RV Manufacturers, and other Companies. That is why there are no prices posted. All the info you need, other than price, is available through the United Shade web site.

thanks I was on web site I don't see any sizes available or wiring required etc are they available in certain inch increments? I assume their 12V so wiring will be required ?

Yes, and no. Our entire coach has United Shades, but not the ones shown with the valance.
United has a much better color selection than MCD Shades, I like where the tension and raise control knobs are compared to MCD, and they have an excellent warranty.

Ordered them through Blind Chalet. We have been doing business with them for over 20 years, and their customer service is top notch.

PM me if you have any questions.
