Insurance for motor home

Where is everyone getting insurance for their class A? I talked to my auto insurer and they said they insure them but had a bunch of questions regarding how much I would be using it if I would be living in it how far I was going to be driving it and on and on. I diffidently go the feeling they were looking to drive the premium up or didn't want to cover it at all. Are there insurance company's out there that will insure with out restrictions at a reasonable rate? OR can you just be kinda vague with your answers and hope you are covered if you get in and accident in the pilot truck stop while boondocking some night.

Why would you not be honest about it? Homeowners insurance, if you are a full timer, is mandatory on your coach. Having a full timers clause on your insurance is covering your " home".

Just like having a sticks and bricks, you need insurance to cover anything that happens around your campsite, especially in today's sue happy society.

We have been with National General, and Progressive. Only thing I don't like about Nat Gen, is there max is half a million coverage. Since we still own properties, I had to add on the motorhome to an outside umbrella to make coverage more. That was only about 15 dollars a year, so no biggie.

Nat Gen for a Motorhome was better for us than Progressive rates.

Insurance should be reasonable if you have a home you also insure.the assumption is it sits and is a vacation / weekend use thing and your homeowners covers liability. Up to and including snow birds for "some ins companies .. not all"
If you are s full timer and don't have a house your options are limited in companies that will write insurance. Of course it's more expensive as you don't have homeowners insurance and much if that cost is put into the RV .
I suspect many don't meet the standards in the policy like "in storage" or layup as my old company called it. 5 months a year etc. In fact I'd bet a good percentage have never read the policy !

I've always had Progressive, but I've never made a claim so I can't tell you about their services. If you go with Progressive when your motorhome is new, you will get replacement cost insurance, up to your original purchase price. What I don't know is how long that lasts, but I do know it lasts at least 10 years as that's when I found out my motorhome was still covered at full value. So if it was a total loss at 10 years old they would have paid $157,000 (my original cost) toward the purchase of the new motorhome. And although that seems like a great deal, it also causes the premiums to go way up over the years. I called Progressive to find out why they were getting so expensive and that was why. But they let me drop that coverage down quite a bit as I just wanted to make sure the pay off on the loan was covered. So I dropped that original purchase price coverage and the premium came way down.

Whatever you do, do not lie about being a full timer. If they found out later after a claim they would turn down your claim and you'd be stuck.

We received a notice that National Insurance is exiting the 'bus' market. We are being sent over to Safeco, a Liberty Mutual Company.

There are not many companies left to insure upper end coaches. I'm curious what our rate will be.

Check with Auto Owners Insurance. I have agreed upon coverage, including zero deductible on windshield coverage and I pay about $350/year. $5000 contents costs me another $25/year. They also insure my toad and another vehicle. I do carry $1000 deductible on my collision coverage.

So do some of you full timers have to fudge on the questions regarding how often you will be using or are you using to live in??

We had our first and current coach insured by Foremost Insurance Co. now for 22 years and have received excellent no hassle claim service from them over the years. Their annual premium for our coach that includes full coverage with $250 deductible for this year was only $838.00

Based on our experience with Foremost I can highly recommend them.

Good luck with your choice of insurers and safe travels...:)
