Long Term Stay at Fort Wilderness

I see that several members are staying at WDW Fort Wilderness for a month or more at a time. We just returned from a week and a half there and are wondering if there is a reduced or "special" rate offered for long term stays or for "Snowbirds".

This past week we stayed at the Fort and when I received my check out invoice, I noticed that there were different daily rates charged from mid week and that charged for the weekend. Not sure how the long term folks staying at the Fort work with the county lodging taxes for short stays. As I understand the county tax policy, committed stays over 30 days don't pay the hefty county lodging tax. I have run into this situation before where the campground doesn't have a monthly rate, so no matter how long you stay, you pay the daily rate and the attached lodging tax to some governmental agency.

Golden crazy, thanks for that information as that was the first time I had heard of it. Most interesting to know. All sorts of stuff goes on behind the scene at the Fort. I talked to one long term/full time resident and found she rents golf carts, as a side source of income. She said some other long term people leave their carts with her to rent out, when they are not staying at the Fort and don't want yo haul their cart with them. Not sure if Disney is aware of this completion or not with their cart rental program.

We found Wekiva Falls and nothing wrong with it for $300/mo. Lots of grass and not far from Disney, not that we go there anyway but I refuse to Pay any of Disney prices and won't go to the park either. SunRV at Orange is real nice at around 700/mo for the nicest sites.

Disney does not offer different rates for length of stay. There are of course different rates depending on the time of year. Jan 1 to Feb 15 is the lower rate time. This year we are participating in a group called "Loop Group". The organizer collects commitments from a group of people and then with those in hand negotiates with Disney for a reduced rate. There is a fee to join the group but overall you save money for a long term stay. It is an annual thing and so closed for 2014 but will probably operate in coming years unless Disney decides it is no longer profitable.
