Newbie looking at 1992 four Winds 28 C class

Hey all, Going to be looking at a 1992 27 foot Four winds C class that has a Ford V 8 with 76,186 miles. Looks very clean and recently tuned and generator with 380 hours on it. Owner bought from a Rv dealer in 2009. States it runs great and great shape with no leaks. Since I am newbie to C class motorhomes and only owned three truck campers would appreciate any advice and tips when I inspect it tomorrow. I am well versed in spotting leaks and water damage old and new but welcome any input. I have seen several on craigs list that have been garaged when not used. Usually
they belong to farmers. These are the nice older ones to look at.

We just bought a 1998 Four Winds 23rk two months ago with 36,000 miles and 110 hours on the gen. It was in perfect condition for 14K, and garaged. We found our MH on Craigslist, eight miles down the road. I would look around a lot more, and be prepared to jump on a good deal for an newer MH when you find it. We looked for several months. I would not have paid any more for the one we bought, and may have over paid a bit, but the quality was worth it. Another year or two newer and I would have been in the 25k range. Take your time and look, look, look.

Most class C that age have leaked or are leaking in the cab over area or roof seams, look for delamination in walls around the windows especially. That rig is over 22 years old and I would not waste my time on anything older than 2000. Best used if you can find one for sale is a Lazy Daze built in CA, Born Free, or a Jayco. In General stay away from Forest River, Coachmen, and Gulfstream products since these seem to have the most problems but there are some people who own one and not had any major problems. It's a lot in how the individual took care of the unit!!

Hi,

All the plastic parts may be friable. I would not consider an rv that old for that reason alone. Chassis parts may be scarce as well. That happened to me on my 1987 unit.
