Pace Arrow cab air conditioner compressor oil fill

We have a 2004 Pace Arrow motor home with an 8.1 gas engine. The cab air conditioner compressor went out so I have a new one to install. My question is how much oil to put into the compressor before I install it. This unit is mounted on the top of the engine, not on the side. It is mounted on a big cast iron bracket which also holds the power steering pump.
Any help would be appreciated!......hal

look for the label for the system in the engine compartment, it will list freon type and quantity, and amount of oil for the system. After flushing the system and replacing the orifice you will need to inject the proper amount of oil into the low side of the system before charging with freon.

Thanks Matt, for giving me all these suggestions. The belt grooved pulley does spin freely. I did not try to turn the clutch with the plugs out, I'll try that tomorrow. That may be the trick. It has 3 oz of Pag oil in it and it calls for R134. I bought a pump like this one last year and it lasted only 6 hours. The guy at O'Rilleys said that I didn't put enough oil in it and that is why it locked up. Now I have this replacement, same model, that I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. The 1st guy that sold me the 1st pump said it had enough oil in it now the 2nd guy says it didn't. I'm not sure. Just don't want to go through this again because the change out is a real b***ch. Really hard to get to. I have skint places to prove it!
Thanks again.............Hal

Hal,
:? There something that has to be cleared up here...
The sheave with the belt grove should spin freely. If it does not, take it back now.
If you are trying to turn it by the clutch plate, it should turn smoothly wit some resistance until you pull the plugs out of the rear plate. If it does not, take it back now.
It should have a tag or label indicting that it has oil for R-12 or R-134 on it Or NO OIL. R-134 oils are either PAG or Ester and they are not compatible. Don't mix them. If the pump frees up, you can empty what is in there out if you stand it on end and spin the clutch plate.
O'Reilly bought out Murry back in the O's and the Murry name was finally dropped in about 2010, so that pump has been on the shelf that long.
Were I you, I would be very cautious as you proceed.

Thanks for the comeback.
Bought the compressor from O'Reillys. The name on the box was Murray, mod# 58950. The only number on the unit itself was a small tag with
2370191. Also maybe you know how hard the clutch should be to turn. I can't turn it with bare hand. I might be able to turn it with a strap wrench??
I intend to replace the drier and vacuum the system down.
Thanks.........Hal

Most come pre filled. Post the model number and name and will check in my book, just in case.

Are you replaceing the dryer also and flushing the system to remove any loose stuff.

This is not yours but a correct way to check and adjust.

oil

150 ml oil Pag 100

As others stated it should turn free by hand once the plug is removed. If not returned and get a name brand one. You stated it froze up, did it stop turning or something came apart. That flush is very important. Replace parts that have screens in them they are not replaceable.
