Range Hood Exterior Wall Vent

I am in search of and wanting advice on how this simple outside vent is arranged on the outside wall of anyone's coach. To place it simply, do you have to manually open a flap/damper from the outside, manually open it from the inside, or does it open automatically when you turn on the hood fan over the stove? None of the above?, is it open at all times with a bug screen installed at the wall? Thanks for any input.

Mine has a cable thingy that supposedly you can shut the vent from the front of the stove vent area. Anyway, that dang vent cover flapper never closes tight. I should just glue it shut.

I glued the magnet on but the cover is made from plastic so I glued the cover closed. Got to look at my Boles Aero, it may have a metal one I can salvage.

My range hood doesn't even have a hole in the back of it so I would have to hack it to use an exterior vent.
Instead, I have a thermostatically controlled fantastic fan in the middle of the kitchen (in front of the stove). When the vent is open it will turn on by itself after we start cooking.
Moves a lot more air than a hood vent and didn't havve to cut any hole in the exterior.
Just a thought!

Here is that interior damper that a lot of people don't even know it's there...

I totally like that magnet idea....now there is a think outside the box idea!! Don't they make a sticky magnetic strip material? I will poke around the hardware store for some more ideas around that suggestion.

Well.. Kind of "All of the above are correct"

On some motor homes and trailers the "Flap" is outside, it is locked closed by two turn locks one on each side, You have to RELEASE the locks so it can open, Air pressure from the fan will open it.

On MY motor home (And nobody told me this) the flap is inside, there is a spring under the hood, right side at the rear. You push it IN to latch the flap, and pull it out to let it flap. Again air pressure from teh fan opens it (it acts as a one-way valve in both cases).

So basically all of your options may be correct. (I know, confusing)

I leave mine unlocked all the time. Some folks object to the flapping.

Mine had a small spring to keep the damper closed. When turned on the fan just opens the damper enough to let it vent to the outside. Once shut off, the spring keeps it closed.

My tabs on mine broke too, plus it yellowed. Just replaced it. Ours is directly over the stove, no damper. Just use the stove fan to expel. I lock the tabs down for travel and cold weather.

I called around and supposedly in the early days some were actuated but none of that type are available anymore...now I did a mod where I could open and close mine manually from inside which worked just awesome but then I found a electronic one...I'm surprised that hood vent companies don't intergrade a manual flapper/damper to the outside of the rig. OK...a niche here.. a rethink of the need... Some of these vents are like 15 feet on the side of a rig your just letting a damper flap in the wind? I broke off two doing this...and the tab things are a joke right?

There are variations.

On mine, it is just there, covered and screened with a flap under the cover. When the hood fan is turned on, the air pressure pushes the flap open. Under rare conditions, it might rattle while moving.

There are others that need to be unlatched, but it has been a while since I've seen one that has to be manually opened. Almost all are at least partially covered with respect to rain or water dripping down the side, and most I've seen are screened against large insects.

On mine you have to open it from the outside. Two tabs at the bottom push up lightly to release them.
