Hello. I am retiring in October of this year and am going to Tampa Florida from December 1st to May 1st. I am looking for a good telephone/internet plan when I am down in the United States. I am currently spoiled with my Canadian provider right now as I have all the plan top ups so I would really appreciate advice. I also understand that I will have cancel my current telephone provider as I do not want to pay for two plans. Your advice is so welcome. Thank you in advance.

WHAT route will you be taking south out of Canada?
Map your trip and then check the providers coverage map and buy the one that 'covers' your route. It's different in all the different parts of the US. You can see here if you take on way down there is not coverage take a different routed down and you have coverage.

You might want to find out which Internet company has the best service and speed in your specific area.

Don't forget about the "carry forward" of days to the next year you plan to be south.

I simply got a packages on my Koodo phone. Data is an issues and I hope to solve that with a 3g unlimited packages on a Samsung tablet that allows tethering.

Just remember the old saying "you get what you pay for." Take one look at Cricket Wireless coverage and I believe you will see that it may be inexpensive, and the lack of coverage is why. If you want good to excellent coverage, you will need to pony up for Verizon. It really depends on if you want a phone and data to work or a cheap plan.

The cheapest option if it would work is to purchase a Cricket SIM card and plug it into your GSM compatible phone.

It is a pay as you go plan and you can get unlimited data at full speed as well as unlimited talk and text for $65 per month.

I just switch from my contract carrier I had been with for 30 plus years and save a lot of money.
