Replacing carpet

Has anyone replaced carpet with vinyl when renovating? I'd like to get rid of the carpet in my 04 Fleetwood Flair but am concerned about where the slide runs on the existing carpet. It looks like it has nylon 'skids' that slide over the carpet but will they tear up vinyl?

It's a good idea to seal new plywood with latex primer. Cheap when you figure labor and material.

I had our carpet replaced with vinyl tile. Many carriage bolt heads under the carpet had to be ground down a lot then skim coated to even out the floor for the tile.
Net result is slight scuffing of the tile as the slide moves in/out. Good wax and the tile pattern hides this unless you get down and look closely.
I would still do it again because I hated the carpet and like the ease of vinyl flooring.
The job was done by a pro and he said that no matter what you should use the best adhesive you can.

Hey MustangGT, how long ago did you do yours? Is it sticking ok for you? We were going to apply ahesive, but decided since we were doing a complete sub floor and using vinyl tile prep it wasn't really necessary. Now that it's done, I'm a little concerned about how the sticky back stuff will hold.

Slightly on-topic: I removed all our carpet from 34' 1997 fleetwood with 1 slide and replaced with Lowes sticky back vinyl. our slide rides about 1/2" above the floor, so no problem there. my problem was the heads of 8-10 large carriage bolts that hold the body to the chassis, so be ready for that situation. I had to cover front half of the RV with 1/8" sheets of plywood to hide those. the project end-result was A+ for appearance, A for ease of cleaning and even an A for road-noise deadening (a nice surprise). good luck

We don't have a slide but just did this. However, we did the work while camping at a local park. A guy, that had noticed the sub flooring and vinyl tile sitting on a picnic table, stopped by to see what we were up to. He "SAID" he had done the same thing in a previous RV of his, that had a slide, and had no problems.
