Replacing slideout motors (Found the motor!)

My 2006 greyhawk has problems that may be shot motor on the front slideout. Anyone here been through this- I looking for some idea of cost.

if you can DIY on yours, be grateful it's not a Forester, not DIY friendly, unless you have a large shop, a forklift, a hoist, and you are a trained mechanic, as to replace the drive gear requires complete removal of the slide-out, as there is NO access to it otherwise, oh sure you can see it but Remove & Replace is impossible otherwise. Luckily it was covered under the extended warranty.

I did the NAPA power window motor swap too; worked fine.

Its also used in most power seats.

My slide motor did not have any specs on it; just a part number.

Doug is RV Tech that has worked most of his adult life in the RV service business and often contributes to threads.

I'm all for saving money but I dont like gambling. It isnt worth it to me to save a few hundred and maybe get a motor that will fail early.

Motors have all the specs you need to know on their tag to find a duplicate motor if you are so inclined. Don't know who Doug Rainer is. If you are referring to the step motor, it has been in service for about 5 years now and doing fine.

The manufacturer didn't make the motor, they had someone else do it then they resell it. me, I would look up the specs in granger or Mc.Master carr . Is there someone nearby that rebuilds motors, another option.
I found out the 300 dollar motor used in quikee type retractable steps is the same motor they used in a Ford power window, it cost me 47 dollars at napa. Do some research and save some dough.

i just looked it up, it is a simple motor connected to a gearbox, the greasiness you experienced most likely is the gear box leaking. Not knowing your wrenching abilities I would take apart the gear box and check that first then research a motor for that. Have you determined it isn't jammed.

Found others at 399 complete if you want to go that route. Do a bigger search on e bay.

Found the motor!
powerglide p/n 523143, no movement when power is applied, very greasy.

On ebay motor is 670+

well I can't find the motors, none of the compartments underneath have a panel, nothing is visible under the couch - I am lost. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I just looked up a similar model and it says that there is access to the slide out motor behind the driver's seat. You can turn the slide out motor manually with a 1/2 inch ratchet . Mine ratchets and clatters when it reaches it's furthermost pints, mostly when i am retracting, I guess it's a safety device. Also is anything jammed to prevent the slide from going out, I left my slide lock on and broke the moulding. Maybe something fell beside it. Gkids baseball bat rolling around almost ruined my day once.


I have not yet located my motor access - it is not behind the driver's seat, I plan to crawl under again tomorrow to see if there is an access panel. This is a greyhawk 30 gs, 2006 model.

EDIT I will also check to see if any of the storage bays under the slide out offer access.

Very often the rubber seals ans especially the wiper becomes stiff and offers enough resistance that the slide out operation is so slow, it appears the motor(s) are bad. To test, take copious amounts of baby powder- yes, baby powder- and sprinkle on the wiper where it contacts the sides. The talcum powder offers enough lubrication. Spray on silicon also works well, too.
