Towing with a KarGard II and my Fleetwood Southwind..

Getting ready to go out on the road this summer. I am towing a Honda 2014CR-V. I have my set up complete with Blue OX towbar etc. I bought the Blue OX KarGard II for a shield while towing. Here is my issue. ( See photos)

I needed a drop down receiver so when I hook up the toad I have a 10 to 12 in gap between the KarGard II and my motor home , seem like I have an area where rocks etc can pass through where the protector doesnt cover.

Just wondering on some thoughts and if anyone has had an experience with this, or should I return my KarGard II. In the picture with the towbar I had tried to place the KarGard on the receiver at the upper part of the drop down receiver but the KarGard wasnt long enough to connect to mhy towbar

If I hook up the KarGard to the lower bar it fits but its just the space between the bar and the MH that I believe is an issue. The picture reflects the connection at the top of the hitch receiver ( at this point the KarGard does not fit on the tow bar) if I move it to the lower bar it fits to the towbar etc, howerver I have the gap between the KarGard and the MH which is about 10 in open space

I assume the extra space is at MH side and not toad side. The gard slips over the two vertical pegs on the Blue Ox and has pins that secure it. I use the Blue Oxgard and like it.

Just seems like the lower straight bar that holds the Blue Ox is long. If it were mine and if it didn't cause any other problems I would be tempted to drill another hole in that straight bar so it would slide in further. Length is not a real problem with a toad. Length can be a problem with a trailer. The longer the lower bar the more downward torque it applies to the hitch. My Blue Ox tow bar had two sets of holes in the straight bar I used ones that made the bar as short as possible. I would call Blue Ox and discuss the problem. You might ask them if drilling another set of holes would cause any problems.

You could make an extension out of sun screen which is available in HD, etc. Or if you're handy make the entire screen to fit your rig.

My 04 CRV would require the screen to be under the tow bar in order to protect the lower portion of the radiator. And on the next trip to Alaska that is what I'll do. I have a drop up hitch since the rig is lower than the CRV. As a result the extended Protect A Tow won't be long enough. If needed my extension would be a separate piece of sun screen.

Fleetwood does cut them higher in back for better clearance. Better clearance on steep slopes. My Monaco is not cut that way and I already scraped 7 pin plug off on steep ramp.

I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of starts and planets will need to line up for something big enough to be a problem to get past. You're more likely to pick up road rocks when driving the car then towing. Just avoid the retread alligators or other such stuff that might clear the coach chassis but not the CRV.

That is a bit of a drop for a CRV. I needed a drop hitch for an Accord but when I changed to a CRV this spring no long needed but then my CRV is an 05 with the base plate attachment point above where the bumper frame used to be.

That is the longest drop down hitch I have seen. Was that a custom made drop down hitch?
