Upgrading to a 10,000 reciever?

I have been searching the threads on here looking for info. on upgrading my 5,000# receiver on my Spartan MM chassis to a 10,000# rating for the purpose of towing a enclosed trailer. My Spartan chassis has a 10,000 GCWR, The Newmar sales Boucher states that it came with a class 2 receiver w/5,000# weight rating. I have read were some have had a weld shop "beef" their OEM receiver up, and others that have bought a new receiver rated at the 10,000#. Through out my search's I have not found anyone that lists a 10,000# receiver for a Spartan MM Chassis specifically, Where does a person find a higher capacity receiver that will bolt on to my Spartan chassis?
Any Idea's? Where does Spartan buy the receivers for their chassis? I think some of the late model chassis have come with 10,000# receivers(or higher) from the factory now?
My specs from Newmar = GVWR - 31,000# GCWR = 41,000#(I am under the GVWR)

I think I answered this elsewhere.. You said the chassis has a 10,000 CGVW rating (you may have put it in a different order) This means the Motor home and trailer, combined, loaded, must not weigh more than 10,000 pounds.

How you can do that and still overload a 5,000 pound receiver I do not know, I know I can't and my CGVW rating is 26,000.

Or did you mis-type.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

I just upgraded mine from a 5000# to a 7500# receiver. It was no big deal.. Forest River had a replacement.

Here's a link I found: http://www.spartanchassis.com/cps/parts_mh.asp

Good luck!

You're 10k receiver won't be bolted on, it will be welded on, most likely a the 5k receiver is too. Take it to a truck frame shop, they will know how to handle it.

My 5,000# receiver is bolted on w/4 large bolts now......hoping that the new one will also bolt on, see no reason to weld....

ANYTIME you want to upgrade a 5000# to a 10,000# you must have a welder beef up the rear frame mount area's. The RATING on the chassis hitch has nothing to do with the GVRW, it has to do with how strong the rear hitch mount is. Lots of people have added a 10,000# in place of a 5000# after having the rear frame beefed up. Doug

Mostly the receiver isn't the issue, the frame is the hurdle. It does no good to add the largest, heaviest receiver if the frame you attach it to is too weak. My advice is to consult a truck frame specialist, they extend and modify truck frames all the time and they will know what to do.
