Wipers on ignition switch off

Yesterday when I parked for the day I set the leveling jacks put the slide out, and then noticed my windshield wipers staying on even though the ignition switch was turned off. Is this an indication that my switch in the column is starting to go bad? It is a 1996 GBM on a Chevy P-30 chassis. When I turned the wipers off they stayed off.

Was it wet in and around the wiper motor. I have routinely had that problem when driving through heavy rain. Once water gets in the wiper motor area the wipers would not turn off. Had to pull the fuse. Now unfortunately my wipers only work on the highest speed and turning them off so they are out of the way is a matter of timing.

if the park mechanism is not working then they will run, when you shut off the wipers they still run until they go to the low position on the windshield if that system is defective they will keep running.forget what i just wrote dosen't apply to your problem after i re-read your problem.

Fireup I just checked to see if wipers worked with key off but they don't. I played with and wiggled the key but could not make the wipers go on again with the key off. They seem to be working alright now. I could hear the solenoid connect when the key was turned on which is normal but nothing else. Some times these intermittent problems are harder to find and fix.

Gjac,
I just found out the other day that my wipers/washer will work with the key off. Now, does this mean EVERY MOTORHOME out there works the same. NO! There are so many folks that think all motorhomes are made the same and act the same. So, a test for you. See if they'll work or, turn on I should say, without turning the key on. If so, well, then maybe they're supposed to work that way and like I did, you just found out about it. But if they don't turn on when the key is off, then, try them again with the ingition on, then turn the key off and see if they continue to work.

If they do, somethings amiss here. Not sure just where to have you start looking. Different kind of problem here. Would be interested in the answer.

I would suspect that the ignition switch is bad. Does the radio or heat/AC controls remain functional along with the wipers? Try jiggling the key while in the OFF position to see if the wipers stop?
