ebay has sellers (authorized ATT dealers ?)
with new data only plans for tablets, hotspots etc..

they are charging/selling the setup ... fees range $25 - $44
the plan is unlimted 4G lte data $29.99 month

BYO device, BYO new SIM card for device

they setup the account and put it in your name, then you pay ATT every month, i belive i read 'prepaid' will have to double check

also some sellers with 'plans for truckers' $60 month unlimted data..
these are all data only no voice no text

Unfortunately it is a tablet. It has the hot spot feature disabled as well. In hindsight it would have been better to have a phone or hotspot.

when you log into the Wifi manager of the hotspot
phone number and other info is usually available

it certainly is on both my mobley and my new Explore hotspot
if i usb tether to my phone or any hotspot all that info is available

i don't remember you asking about this problem
but my memory isn't what it used to be
i would have tried to help you

the default address for access FOR ALL ROUTERS is http://192.168.1.1

you can usually just type the numbers 192.168.1.1

into the address bar on your browser
you will need the router administration password, not wifi password
default is something like admin or vzwadmin or 0001

my $5 vzw hotspot came with paperwork with the info
mine was one of those that quit working, but other people have been using theirs for (2) yr or more

i've had my mobley for 16 months ? of course it was an ATT activation
i just moved the SIM to the explore for a better signal

Hi,

One of the issues to watch for is the type of coverage. I had a Verizon device that was 3G. It has become more or less useless. My suggestion is to only buy a device that does LTE or what ever the "latest flavor" is.

I'd also advice against setting up a monthly "auto debit". When I went to cancel I could not do so as I did not have the "phone number" for the device and there was no way to contact the seller.

I finally cancelled by putting a 14 month "hold" on any payments requested from the company. I do plan to change credit card companies due to the 3.5% charge on USA purchases, so that should solve the issue more or less permanently.

On this forum advise I bought MI-FI modem with unlimited data from Calyx Institute.
Paid $500 for 1st year and it suppose to be $400 for following year.
My first year end 4 months ago and the modem still works.
It is using Sprint for coverage and it did work pretty well in 95% areas I camp in.
Got the T-shirt too.

As far as I can ascertain, using a mobile hotspot with this unlimited plan appears to be exploiting a loophole? Ebay sellers apparently set these accounts up using info meant for a tablet device. Once the account is activated by AT&T, the SIM also then works in their hotspots. At least for now? As the user account was meant for a tablet?

There is no mention on AT&T website of an unlimited 4G LTE $29.95 monthly plan for hotspots. Only for tablets - with automatic monthly billing.

Another question is whether Ebay is shutting seller accounts down who offer this plan? Notice that all these sellers have relatively few ratings?

10-1 they are either scams or lots of hidden costs that you only find out about after you buy.

Yes, there are some cheap tablet options...if you already have a $200/month plan for your phones.

any store rep is going to say it doesn't exist

but just about anybody with an ATT ipad will tell you $29.99 data
is/was an option when they got their ipad from att
in fact i think it was a requirement you had to get the data plan when you got the ipad on payments from att

it would not surprise me, if ATT had these ph# data plans allotted to ipad sales, and did not get the number of expected sales
and they have been released to the volume dealers to get them sold and active before the next quarterly earnings statement

most of the sellers are east coast
except for one in Hawaii
with statements only good in USA, does not work outside USA but does work in P.R.

i saw one with T-moble data sim, from Singaphore .. NADA NFM
