Difficulty Finding Adaptor

I'm trying to attach a wired mouse to my iPad. I don't like Bluetooth mice because I've used them in the past and always had problems. My wired mouse has a USB-A plug and the iPad has a lightning port. I need a lightning (male) to USB=A (female) adaptor in order to accomplish this. All I can find are adaptors with USB (male). Walmart has dozens of adaptors, but they're all USB (male). I even checked online without success. Maybe they aren't manufactured for some reason. I would especially prefer lightning (male) to USB-A (female) with no wiring in-between, just a simple plug-in adaptor. In the meantime, I can continue using the track pad on the external Bluetooth keyboard, but a mouse would be preferable.

Adaptor arrived yesterday and works just fine with USB drives and wired mouse. I tried it with an external hard drive, but the iPad couldn’t handle it even with charger power applied. I expected that. Since I can only use my right hand its a little awkward plugging peripherals into the adaptor, but I get it done. :C

Thanks for your test results, 1492. My adaptor should arrive any day now. My only challenge will be trying to plug a USB stick or other peripheral into the adaptor with one hand (left arm is paralyzed), but I think I can figure out some go arounds. 😉

Liked the idea of this adapter that I ordered a similar one on Amazon.com for 9.99. Will test with USB Keyboard/Mouse on my iPhone and iPad once I get it.

Apple's own documentation states it supports USB mouse in iOS v13 and higher.

Yes, this cable did work for both USB keyboard and mice in iOS mobile devices. Even tested using a gaming keyboard and Logitech wireless gaming mouse, with the wireless receiver connected to the adapter. Though personally not interested using either with my iPhone/iPad.

The keyboard and mouse were recognized instantly. Nothing to enable in my case. I have the latest iOS v14.2.2 installed which obviously include the generic drivers for both USB keyboard/mice.

That looks pretty good, Mr Wizard, but, as I stated above , I’ve already ordered a Bluetooth mouse from Amazon. I If it’s not satisfactory, I’ll go ahead and adapt my wired mouse to my iPad. Thank you. Ed

Thank you also, Scottiemom and Wa8yxm., and others.

This will do it
One is lighting male to C female
Two is C male to usb A female
So you get usb A female to lighting male, which lets you plug in a usb A male to a lighting female port

They came in a set I bought on Amazon in April of 2020
Cost was low 7 or 8 dollars, set came with 6 different
adapters, all possible data pins are used, these are for data transfer interfacing, device communication, Not charge cord adapters, a camera to lighting adapter is data communication and should also work
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I bought a set of three adapters on Amazon. Two short ones and a longer one. The short one I used for a mouse. I am like you, I just like a wired mouse, although I do use the touch pad as well.

Mine is USB to the Thunderbolt connection, which I think may be the "lightening" port you mention. I can also connect my printer using one as well.

Do you have more than one PC or device that uses bluetooth?
If at some time you can't connect to the mouse chances are it connected to another device. This one really had me baffled at first.

Well, I’ve pretty much decided to go with a Bluetooth mouse after all. I found a good one on Amazon for less than $16. It’s a. Microsoft mouse (yes, that’s right). User reviews are mostly excellent. Thanks to all who added their suggestions on this thread.

Yes it work.
I've tried it but I'm so use to using a touch screen I gave up on it. I found it slow and awkward.
