directv, HD24-100, 18" Satellite Dish

Now before someone flames me for this, I did a search for this and I can't find the prior replies!

I'm camping in Big Bear, CA (zipcode 92315). According to the box, it wants 139 azimuth and 46 degrees elevation.

In my prior posts, I was told I can use a standard, Single LNB - 18" dish to pickup the satellite.

I went into the satellite setup and I set the satellite for number 01, 18" round, Switch Type is set to SWM from Multiswitch.

I've tried panning left and right, plus up and down with no avail. the dish is at 140 at at 46 degrees I've verified it with my compass plus my cell phones compass just to be sure. The mast is deal level - using my small level (no magnets in the level!!!) and my phone as a backup.

The dish I'm using is labeled Directv - winegard it's a roundish shaped dish... Almost round, but it's a bit oval in shape. A couple of spots from where I'm at, there is an RCA that is 18" and is perfectly round.

To insure that i'm not having any cabling issues, I'm going directly from the dish to the receiver. No 5er wiring between me and the dish.

One More frustration, when I go to the signal strength meters, I used to get the beep beep sound to indicate eeh signal strength. I don't get anything and yes, the volume is way up and loud.

What am I missing?

Thanks for the help in advance!

OP, does your dish look like this and does it have an adjustment for tilt? If so you can put this Sl3 lnb on and get HD without changing your settings. This smaller dish will work well in the southern 2/3rds of the country for HD and then SD for the northern sates.

No, it does not look like that. He said he had a single LNB antenna.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

Don,

I got it working! thank you so much. It required me doing the grid search (up, left right, down a little left right, etc). I finally got it. I did make the changes to settings to show the SD - but as long as the satellite gets the signal, I'm golden.

I can't thank you enough!

have a great afternoon.

Don,

Thanks for the help. I got it set at 18" round, and back to Multiswitch - but how do you set it up for SD only?

Thanks you again!

you have switch set wrong it should be 01 round and multiswitch-note you have to change switch settingBEFORE setting to 01 round
After you do this go back and make sure settings take !-sometimes hard to get it out of swm
You must aim @101 sat and change receiver to sd only
Hope this helps
Don
PS the new receivers do not have sound when searching for sig-also take a few seconds to respond to signal -move slowly
