If you're on the "Pay-As-You-Go" plan, all you need to do is not pay next month's bill. You may receive a couple of reminders, but just ignore them. All it takes is a phone call and the next monthly payment to restart service when you want it.
This is so wrong!!!!
You will end up paying for service you didn't use! Call and tell them you want to cancel your service. Billing stops immediately and you will have that partial months credit available when you restart service. Make sure you cancel service as a pause or suspension will result in something like a $5 monthly charge.
Not so wrong. It does work as Dutch says. Been doing it for years.
This is only wrong if you signed for auto pay thru a credit card. If you did not give them permission to automatically charge your credit card each month, you can just not call to pay for the next month and they will shut off your service until you call to restart it.

You can call or use the Dish online chat. We've done it both ways without any problems. Be aware that when they turn your service back on if it has been inactive for a while they may have to download some information to your receiver to get it started.
Chat is how we always do it, seems to work better for us. Sometimes we have a hard time understanding the person on the phone or we have a bad connection since all we have are cell phones. Yes if you don't use it for a while you may have to ask them to do an authorization hit to your receiver but I'd assume they would do that upon turning it back on.
