Dish TV Connections

I made the mistake of asking Dish Customer Support this question. of course they didn't have a clue.
I just got a new motor home and it has 3 tv's. I have a portable Tailgater. What would I have to do to have a Dish connection for all of the tv's? Hope my question makes sense...โ€ฆโ€ฆ...Thanks

I have a Tailgater to get one tv on satellite. I'm pretty confused on what I need to do. I would like to get a roof mounted satellite that I could watch different channels on at least 2 tv's. I've read if you are watching tv in one room an the Western arc channels and you change channels in the other room to an Eastern arc channel, it will mess up the other tv. I'm not sure which satellite and receivers to use. You are right...What I need is a satellite guy. Thanks

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Wow so many options. I appreciate all the replies. I know what to look for. Iโ€™ll research the options and see which is best for me or maybe Iโ€™ll use one tv for sattelite and the others use OTA for now. Might be a task to get done in Quartzsite. Thanks again

The 211 does not have a coax output but you simply need to buy a composite to coax converter (Red, white, yellow output) and you are good to go. These are very cheap.

211z does not have coax output. 211k does.

If you want to be able to watch DISH in HD on all TV's then you either need a receiver at each TV (Tailgater will not support this) or you need to add an HDMI splitter and run new HDMI cables from that location to each TV. That can also be done with a wireless HDMI splitter but that adds a pretty high cost. If your coach has a "box of many buttons" (BOMB) that allows you to select TV, Cable, Ant., Aux, etc. then you can run a coax to that box and watch TV in SD in the other TV's in the coach and an HDMI cable to the local TV for HD. The 211 does not have a coax output but you simply need to buy a composite to coax converter (Red, white, yellow output) and you are good to go. These are very cheap.

DO you want a Single program on all 3 TV's and no recorders. or do you want Mutiple programs at the same time?

Option 1: A VIP 211 series receiver and an HDMI splitter with cables to all 3 TV's. You likely will have to route cable less you have a RV already set up for this.

Option 2: Buy two more tailgaters.

I use a wireless HDMI extender for my outside TV. Not cheap but works.

You can buy HDMI splitters and run cable, too.

lagary has your answers. Be aware that the vip211z (single tuner) and Tailgater (single LNB) can only "see" one satellite at a time. So even if you connect to multiple TVs, those TVs cannot watch different programs that are on different satellites at the same time. They would be limited to programs on the same satellite. There are other receivers and satellite antennas options available for multiple TVs.

Another problem often encountered with satellite is in the internal coax wiring of the RV, many times inferior or poorly installed. Some have resorted to adding a new coax input from the outside directly to the satellite receiver inside to bypass that internal coax wiring.

As far as Dish customer service, even their RV specialist have no way of knowing how every RV is wired and the multitude of ways to get around that.

One more thing. If you can find a VIP 211K receiver, it has a coax output. This would eliminate the need for the RF modulator. It has Infrared remote control, however.

Let me add that if you were to switch to the Wally receiver, you would have the same connection options, but also would have RF remote control, which means you could control your receiver from the remote TVs. I am looking at replacing my home system with Wally receivers for this exact reason.

You absolutely can connect a VIP 211Z to multiple TVs. The 211Z has two outputs. First is the HDMI output which is high def. It also has a composite (Red/White for audio and yellow for video) which is standard definition. The way I have done this is to place the receiver near the most important (living room?) TV and connect with HDMI. Then get an RF Modulator that converts the red/white/yellow connection to coax. Once this signal is converted to coax it can be distributed to the other TVs via the camper's coax wiring, if available. Another method, which I have not tried, would be to utilize a wireless HDMI transmitter/receiver. There are units that have one transmitter (connected to the HDMI output on the receiver) and multiple receivers which can be attached to the TVs. Again, I have not tried this method. The transmitter/receivers can be expensive. Please note that in the methods above, all TV's must watch the same satellite channel. HOWEVER, I also connect the OTA antenna to the main TV coax input so this TV can watch OTA while others can watch sat signal. Sorry for the lengthy post.
