Help w thunderbird sending to outlook.com please

Thanks for the suggesions: Problem resolved. See last post for resolution.

I have a problem trying to send email from Thunderbird to outlook.com. My email address ends in @outlook.com

The sending worked well for several weeks, and then I began to get an error message.

I have thunderbird configured as follows:
server name = smtp-mail.outlook.com
port = 587
Authentication Method = Normal Password
Connection Security = STARTTLS

After trying to send the message, I get the following:
An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded:
4.5.2 451 4.7.0 Temporary server error. Please try again later. PRX4. Please check the message and try again.

I have tried several google searches, but the solutions seem to be server settings that I can not change.

I've also tried port 25, and various settings for Connection Security without good results.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

Today, microsoft finally let me delete the old email address that was my alias. My thunderbird will now send messages.

Posting this hoping it may help someone else also.

An update: I've tracked the possible solution to changing the aliases in the microsoft account, but microsoft only allows a limited number of attempts before it gives you the message about too many attempts to change the aliases....try again next week.

Oh well.

Thanks for all the replies. I have checked all of the items listed above, and I still have the problem.

I think I've found a clue, however. I'm now convinced that the problem is related to my "microsoft account". My initial microsoft account was set up using a different laptop (that failed and was sent away for repair) and a different email address (that now is inop due to moving away from the area where that service is available).

The original setup of the microsoft account involved an email address that ended in @centurytel.net. I have attempted to change everything over to an email address ending in @outlook.com.

When I now get into my microsoft account and click the little symbol that looks like a person's outline, I get identity info including the email that ends in @outlook.com. When I get into my outlook.com email (via web browser) and click the little symbol that looks like a person's outline, I get identity info including the old email that ends in centurytel.net.

So far, I have been unable to get that old email out of the identity info of outlook.com.

At this point, I can retrieve email into Thunderbird. I can not send email from Thunderbird. I can get on outlook.com via web browser and send email.

If anyone has ideas of how to correct the identity problem within outlook.com, please let me know.

Thanks again for your help.

But the password is stored over here

Delete the password and restart Thunderbird. It will ask you for the password next time you want to send something.

Don't forget that in Thunderbird, you need to separately set the incoming and outgoing server settings. I only gave you my incoming settings as a comparison to yours. Clay L gave you an example of his "outgoing" server settings.

In Thunderbird Tools > Account Settings, click on the Outgoing Server (SMTP)

My outgoing sever is configured exactly like yours and works fine. A couple of the posts above appear to be showing the incoming server settings.

On the first page of Thunderbird account settings for your account, near the bottom, there is a selection box labeled "Outgoing Server (SMTP)". What do you have set there ?

Also, the last selection in the left hand column of account settings is for different Outgoing Server (SMTP) setting.

Finally, from the Menu Bar select Tools-Options-Security-Passwords-Saved Passwords. Click Show Passwords.

Thanks 1492. I just tried your settings, and got the same error when trying to send email.

I can use webmail to send and it works but I can not send from thunderbird.

Anyone have other suggestions?

It's working for me sending emails from Mozilla Thunderbird to/from Outlook.com. My server settings are:

Server Type: IMAP Mail Server
Server Name: imap-mail.outlook.com Port: 993
User Name: account-name@outlook.com

Connection security: SSL/TLS

Port 25 won't work. It's unsecured, and banned by most email providers.
