New Android App - TripInspect RV

Hello All!

Travelling around the country, I often see damage to RV units simply because the owner neglected to perform a proper departure check - or a complete trip inspection before starting out on vacation. The RV repair shops confirm these observations with the huge amount of work due to neglect.

TRIPINSPECT RV

Version 1.0 complete. Posted on Google Play Store. Link Below...

Thanks

"It would not let me enter my email address and brought up my contacts list..."

In the early beta test development, I asked users to enter in the email address they wished to send to. I also asked they provide "their" email address and password as the Sent From... Fine as corporate application (where someone paid for app development and used selectively), this method doesn't sit well as a public offering (where pirate developers could then scoop your info and use or sell it).

Instead, I ask you to provide who you wish to send completed inspections too. This presents a list of your contacts (one of which is expected to be you - hint: send an email to yourself to be added to your own contacts). You have to long press to actually select from the list ( I do this with most scroll lists to prevent unwanted mis-selecting ).

Droid X seems to have only 512 k of RAM. It still should run fine however...
All my devices have 1 gig - which makes a big difference with app/list load times. Same OS as my phone I test with.

Thanks again. Always most helpful.

Wow, that's astonishing!

I have a Samsung S phone, Nexus 7 and Acer A100 tablet and they all work fine.
Phone runs 2.33 android and the tabs run Jelly Bean. My friend has a Samsung G2 and it works well...

What OS ver, RAM and storage does it have, if I may ask?

I can't imagine what would be wrong since it is a pretty simple app - with regards to graphics and processor load. One never knows until the devices of the world test it...

Thanks for your honest response wgriswold. Droid X is newer than my Samsung S (first generation)?

I would like to see many different devices try it and see how it reacts with them. This would help greatly.

Mike

I tried again last night. It would not let me enter my email address and brought up my contacts list. I seem to remember not being able to get away from the email entry page. It would take a very long time to load a check list.

My phone: Droid X, Android ver. 2.3.4, 16GB sd card. I don't know anything else about it.

I will play with it some more. My problems could very well be operator error.

Anyone try the app available on Google Play?

If you have, any comments?

Thanks Kindly,
Mike

I downloaded it and couldn't get it to work. It would take forever trying to load something and I just gave up and uninstalled it. I meant to go back and install it again but haven't gotten around to it.

I have a Droid X.

No flaming here either. I will try again and let you know.

I downloaded it but found it didn't really do anything for me (me personally, so not flames please) and I uninstalled it.
It may be that I have been doing this too long and already have all the check lists memorized. It just seemed like too much work for little or no gain.
Good luck with your app.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

OK, for all who generously asked to beta test. 😉 I thank you...

Please PM me with the following: ( a select few will be chosen for the first week so I don't overwhelm myself - I have a day job (unfortunately) ). All others will follow.

Android Device:

Make:
Model: (if you know)
Android Version: (under About in Settings - Version)
Tablet or phone: (not always obvious from model)

Tow Vehicle:

Make:
Model:
Class: (if MotorHome(small) or MotorCoach(big-generally, the diesel pushers) )

Trailer:

Make:
Model:
Description: (single, dual, tri axle? 5th wheel or ball hitch, utility, etc)
(most of you do describe this in your tag but this is easier for me - thanks)

Vacation Dates:

Will you use the app NOW (during test phase) or some other date? Or are you retired and travelling all summer?

Also, I wish to include my email address for completed inspections. It will show as an address in the "Send To" of email setup section and warn you if you wish to remove it. This will help me "see" how the app is used and if/when errors arise. You can remove it when testing is complete (I shall anyways). Test and mock up anything you like (beat it up!). That's what testing is all about - try and BREAK it.
But of course this is confidential...

With all bugs reports (very few I hope - ha, ha), you shall PM me (so as not to clutter this post).

With all of your help, this app shall become truly useful.

Thank you everyone for your interest and support. I see a very diverse group so far.

PS: You will need a PDF viewer app on your device to "view" the completed inspection (on your device - if you care to). My app will ask Android to use one - if it has it - and launch it by default (or ask which one to use if more than one viewer exists) . If you are not sure, download a PDF - or send yourself one (by email) and try to open it. This will test if your device has a viewer. If not, get one from the "Market" (or Google Play or what ever they call it this week).

Thanks

I have attached to the first post an example of the Completed PDF Inspection Document produced each time an inspection is saved. Inspection details shown are also just "examples".... but you get the idea...

The three pages indicate the "Audit Trail" of proper inspections:

Page 1:
A Clean Inspection - No Defects Found (like it should be...)
Note the format of the page. Inspection details will wrap to three columns as required. You have the option to print this copy and have the repair person sign it (if you like paper copies).

Page 2:
Indicates a Minor Defect. During your (thorough) inspection, you noticed the trailer harness plug socket was damaged and needs replacement. No problem - a bit of wire held it in place until you reached the auto parts store where you purchased a new one...

Page 3:
You replaced the socket at your new campsite (handy man that you are) but now noticed that the right rear is flat. Obviously - you can't tow this unit until the tire is fixed. Major Defect - Unit Placed OUT OF SERVICE until tire is fixed. The expected process is that YOU noted it (recorded as MAJOR defect), YOU fixed it and recorded another inspection to indicate it was resolved...

Any of you Big Rig Truckers out there will recognize the form.

Thanks

Mike

Ok, I see what to remove and add using same drive link.

Shall give a try when updating (which shall be soon).

Thanks!

I have started on the user guide, but can't see how to attach the document here? Guess I need to post a link to Google Shared Drive Document?

Any help would be welcome.

Thanks

Yes, your right. The forum software does not permit direct embedding of files, so you need to provide a link to it from a hosted site as you've done. But here is a trick to turn a Google Drive file into a direct download link with no preview:

    Your Google Drive URL link:

    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_Y1X-sgTS47bVhXYlJqVUtQREU/edit

To make a Google Drive file into a direct download link:

Direct download of your manual here.
