Has anyone gotten phone call from man with Indian accent stating they are getting error messages from our computer & we need to turn it on (or off). With accent it was hard to tell if he said on or off? I think this is second time we've gotten this call so DH immediately hangs up & we unplug computer
Just curious if anyone else has gotten these calls.

OH, I did forward to someone who DOES have an account at BoA.. his user name is "Security".

I had the same thing happen but my email came from "Chase Bank",I dropped by my local Chase bank and reported the email to them.Yep,it was a scam.

I told the guy that if my computer had a virus I was turning it off and throwing it away as I didn't want to catch the virus and get sick. I asked if there was a a pill or a shot for the virus if I catch it.

I don't answer any calls from people I don't know. Otherwise, why pay for CallerID? I also pass on calls from numbers I recognize, when I know they are asking for money.

Yes, I get these calls frequently. I do not hang up I just lay the phone down and walk away. After a minute or 2 they get the message and hang up. Like everyone else, just messing with them.

The guy told me he was from, "Microsoft Windows".
"Windows?", I replied. "You do windows?"
"No, your computer not your windows," he said.
"Computer?", I asked. "What computer? I have windows."
He went on about my computer. I asked him if he knew where I lived.
"No," he replied. "It is your computer."
"I live in Yukon, in the bush. No internet here. So no computer. But my windows need cleaning."

This has gotten me thinking, I have gotten the call and knew it was a scam but I think I need to put me a sound effects routine together for entertainment purposes. It could be fun

All you whistle blowers out there, the phones these days have noise limiters so you cannot disturb the person on the other end with a whistle or an air horn any more than if you yelled at them (or hung up).

I get these calls occasionally. If I'm not busy I sometimes play along and act like I'm really confused and naive. I do not actually follow their steps as they want remote access. I keep a whistle on my desk and if I am busy I occasionally just blow it in their ear. Last time they called the minute they said my computer was infected I acted like I was freaked out and told them to hang and yelled out for my wife to unplug the computer because it was being infected (this was all done loudly just for their benefit). I then got back on the phone and told them we unplugged it. They told me to turn it back on so I pretended to. I waited an appropriate amount of time and then told them in a panic that they must be right because the screen had a message on it that shouldn't and asked if they want me to tell them what it said. Of course they did so I told it had letters coming up and I would read them to them one at a time F U _ _ Y O U well you get it. Really pissed them off and they hung up. Called me back a few minutes later and tried to cuss me out. Haven't heard back from them since.

In case no one thus far has make it perfectly clear, YES, this is a SCAM. Hang up! If you are me (and you are not) you would play with the caller understanding that they are losing money for every second they are talking to me. If I just hang up they are going to re-dial and your phone number is the next one on the list! I love screwing with telemarketers and scammers. I will claim to follow all of their directions or I will agree with all the claims they make for as long as humanly possible. It's really surprising how many of these well intentioned callers hang up on me.....Hello? Hello? Is my computer OK now? Hello? Tee Hee!

They argued with my 87 year old mother when she said she didn't have a computer that she did.

I also like to keep them online if I have time. I keep interrupting their written script to see how many times I can get them to start over before they hang up. I never tell them on a Mac not a Windows machine.

The best is my son, he owns his own IT business and they called him on a slow day. He knows what should happen when they tell him to do something so he rattled the keys and would tell him what they were expecting him to do but with slight changes. When they didn't get what they expected they would get confused and have him do something else. Said he kept them online for 30 minutes.

I love getting calls from these guys. True they can't get into your computer but equally true they are just a pain. It's almost as much fun to see how long they will keep trying to get me to turn my computer on ๐Ÿ™‚
On another note just because bob_nestor just brought it up, always be cautious of anyone wanting to use a DHL shipping. I used to work in central Africa and DHL is the only shipping company the have there. Just remember when you shop online in the USA everyone ships with UPS and in Canada we like to use Canada Post but all of a sudden an email comes and they want you to use DHL...red flag
