Any suggestions on how to better secure or replace the door locks myself?

is there any difference in difficulty in doing this in a vise with a mallet and on a door of a RV?

Replacing the lock maybe a deterrent however the door and frame itself are the weak links. A better lock may keep an honest person out ,but new locks won't stop a thief.

Put a hasp on each door and snap a Master padlock on it.

That way everybody will know you have something in there worth stealing.

I keep the good stuff (air compressor, good tools, extra 50Amp cord) locked in the tool chest in the bed of the truck in front of the hitch.

I replaced my 751s with those taking the round keys. almost went for the ones with a combination to open them. you are just making it harder to quietly steal your stuff rather than the RV parked next to you.

For starters, every RV has the same basement door locks. They're all opened with a CH751 key which is readily available at any hardware store. But there's a skeleton key that crooks use. Its called a crow bar. Then you have to replace the lock AND the door.
But a friend of mine is a locksmith and I had the same concerns. He removed the lock, added another washer to the string of spacers in the lock and then filed the shoulders of my keys down by the same amount. The result? I had locks with CH751 marked on them, but I have the only two keys that work.
That still doesn't solve the crook's skeleton key. (Crow bar). So, pay attention to where you park. An RV park with a single entrance/exit road. A locked gate at the entrance is a bonus, but pretty rare. Wally World is pretty safe because of the amount of traffic. But they don't all allow overnight parking. If you leave your RV to shop anywhere, cover all the windows and turn a portable radio on. Crooks hate witnesses. Finally, don't store anything valuable in the large rear compartments. If some crook wants my stinky slinky that bad, he's welcome to it. I keep an unused spare inside.
