golf cart

Hello, only been TT camping for 3yr. so I'm thinking of a golf cart.
Anyone, please, pro's and con's of owning, operating, maintaining, transporting........
What type do you prefer electric gas?
Any advice as to buying a used one, what to look for and a fair price to pay for one?
How many volt's or what size gas motor?

In a 300 acre 900 site campground golf carts are better carrying all the beach gear than a large vehicle NOTHING to do with being lazy just practical........... Our July camp site is almost 1/4 mile from the beach........

And.......they are fun to ride around on. Nothing lazy about it. No more lazy than have a riding mower, tractor, electric windows in your car/truck, electric jacks and etc.

To each their own. We love our cart.

In a 300 acre 900 site campground golf carts are better carrying all the beach gear than a large vehicle NOTHING to do with being lazy just practical........... Our July camp site is almost 1/4 mile from the beach........

I have a cart and I am not lazy and I am not staying home. Oh we also bring our bikes too. Carts do more than just drive back and forth to the bathroom. Mine is a tool and I use it like a little truck.

OP. gas carts are cool but electric is much more widely accepted at campgrounds.

The carts are heavy and care needs to be taken while loading in the truck. I have dropped mine twice off I'd the ramps trying to load it into my truck. Yes the ramps were tied down with ratchet straps. I am looking for a better solution. To get my cart in the truck bed. I will probably be installing an electric winch in the bed and winch my cart into the bed without anyone being on the cart.

Just an opinion..........

We have had our 2005 about 3 years no issues it looks like a new cart got it from Brads Golf Carts NE of Winston Salem NC... I looked into Ocean Lakes carts but the ones they had when we looked were rough the frames (Alum) were pitted....... We figured what we wanted (extra wise) was cheaper to buy in NC & got a cart with low hours.........
The guys at Ocean Lakes Carts were very helpful & friendly though......

The campground I am in charges extra if you have an electric golf cart as you are consuming more energy to charge it! We have a gas Club Car DS with blue paint, rear fold down seat, roof, light kit and mirror.

Unless you plan to change out the body soon, that is another thing to check. Otherwise, go from there, roof, wheels, tires, seats. Make sure lights work on it.

As before many campgrounds only allow electric, we bought a used cart from a dealer in NC the cart came used from New England (short golf season) came with new batteries, added a long roof, flip rear seat, wheel covers, new body, & more it was 4 years old paid $3000 has more than paid for itself in saved rental fees...... have had it 3 years no additional maintenance ($) as of yet. (Keep check of batteries) Do need to have at least liability insurance (about $50-100 annually). Toyhauler or trailer needed to get it there....... some states not legal to triple tow.......

Just bought 6 new 8 volt Trojan batteries and installed them myself. $850. Good for 5-7? years if well maintained.

Have found that as mentioned above, many campgrounds only allow electric. Asked why at a few and it was to prevent ATV's from being ridden in the loops. Ban gas powered engines other than licensed vehicles and it took care of the problem they said.

Electric Carts will weigh more due to the batteries but is quieter and again, allowed about everywhere. If you have free electric hookups, your getting recharged free also.

Gas Carts are lighter and usually faster on unmodified carts but banned some places. Gas prices are never free and you need to haul gas cans if you extended stay anywhere for longer than the cart will go on it's tank of fuel.

Agreed $2000 seems to be the going price for the basic used cart and if you shop around, you can sometimes find on with the 2nd backward seat fold down flat bed for that price.

yup and insurance. If $50 to $75 a day is ok with you rent it. IF not buy a used one a decent one from a dealer is 2k if you look around you can probably find one cheaper private as long a they didn't go nuts customizing it. We bought ours cause Disney is $500 a week for a cart.
