Need help with a pre-purchase inspection

Hi All,

I’m wondering if someone can help me. I live in Canada, but have negotiated the purchase of our first motorhome, a Tiffin Allegro 30DA, in Ventura, CA. I’m looking for someone in that area that knows engines, etc. that I can hire to check it out for me before I spend the money and time to fly down there, check it out, and maybe find that there is something wrong with it. I'm hoping to get this done in the next 2 or 3 days.

Thanks much!

Chuck

Thanks, drsteve. I called Bill Massey and it doesn't make sense for him to come out and do the inspection that I need. I only need someone for about an hour's work, and it's not worth it for him. Otherwise, his usual inspection takes about 5 hours plus another 2 or so to write up a report. He charges just under $900 for that.

$900 to inspect a MH? Wow... Pretty hefty pay for a day's work...

Not really if you're getting a true 5 hour inspection from a qualified, competent person and a written report. 7 hours @ $128 hour? And thats not counting what the guy had in training and certification, along with his costs getting to and from the location where the rig is located.

You'll pay more than that per hour at most RV dealers only to have some 18 yr old nose picking moron booger up your RV for you.
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

Chuck.....I can take a look at it. I'm just a few miles away. I'm not a certified mechanic, but have been servicing my own DP since 2005. I've actually done this twice, once for a guy in Canada and one in Alaska. One had been lived in full time with cat(s) and didn't look anything like the pictures.

I'm picky and will give you my opinion no charge. I won't be able to give you detailed engine info other than if it runs well.

I sent you a PM.
Don, generous offer. Wish you lived near me. I don't need any inspections done but I like to have good folks around me. 🙂

Could be 900 bucks well spent if the MoHo is a bust. You need to ponder that. Now if it was any place other than Kalifornia, it would be half that. Everything is more expensive in Kalifornia.

Thanks for the quick replies! I tried the nrvia.org site but there were no results within 50 miles of Ventura. I have called mobile techs but they are too busy, very expensive or both! I may just have to trust the sellers that all is good as they've said, fly down there and check it out myself.

I went to the nrvia site and entered 100 miles, and there is a guy available.
